Port Levy to Little River is easily doable on a road bike I have taken both of my road bikes over that track (ninja 250 and an R6) just take your time I've even been over there in my Toyota Levin, and I agree that if going to Akaroa you should stop in at the café in Little River for a coffee.
SH 75 can have cops and speed camera vans on it for the open bits before and after Little River and once you start going over the hill it's a good idea to keep your eye out for grit on the road but awesome ride, you'll be kicking yourself if you don't head over there.
...just been talking with a local fire brigade volunteer out here...four vehicles left the road between Catons Bay, on the way round the lake a couple of k's before Little River and Duvauchelles...they were called out to clean/clear up diesel that surfaced after a slight bit of misty drizzle yesterday... all were spills in different areas ... I was out there yesterday with my girl on the Sportsters and felt nothing untoward, but was also pretty wary of just that scenario after a weekend of huge traffic volume on SH75 out our way...
cheers DD
