Do you even ride trailbikes or are you another road rider who thinks he knows what offroad is like? Here in the dirt section we get that quite a bit

    Jelly wrestler; fuck you too.

What I based it on is several hairy moments in the Akatarawas meeting quads around blind corners where they don't get out of the way cos they've got two wheels too many. That is why I said I don't go in there weekends any more. Maybe you do in which case we will never meet so everyone's happy.

Bit harsh, I love going for a hoon on a decent quad. I even like hooning around on the farm on one and hunting with one. We cant hate and ban everything we do not like, cos it would be a boring place then.

    Time to get a permit

Maybe it is time to get a permit. Given that it is legally a public road, just like some beach roads. Like most people I have not bothered until now.
A six month permit is free: http://www.gw.govt.nz/trail-riding-permit/
They make it pretty clear: 30kph limit, keep left etc.

Legally your bike should be registered. Let's hope that doesn't get enforced.

It all boils down to someone making a bad judgement call. In this case with tragic consequences. Such incidents occur on the roads too.

A drastic life change for one family and a tragic loss for the other.

The issue with permits is only the responsible riders get them, who tend to ride responsibly as well. The single braincell, knuckle-dragging muppets that cause most of the issues will continue to ride illegally and dangerously.

(not directing any of that at the people involved in this particular accident).

Came across the crash site yesterday. Hope the guys are doing ok.
    My 2 cents :
Quads .... made for those who can't get proper balance on 2 wheels.
Clearly some don't have enough brain cells to realise that sliding in blind corners will eventually end badly.

Having said that got a lucky escape from a head on on my way out to car park with a bike.
Guy was coming in the gorge full throttle on the right side of the track on his RM
Plus the usual morons who are riding with singlets (got a video of it !!) or T shirts. What do they expect ?

As for grooming the devil staircase ??? ; that'll be great, with toilets and free wifi as well ?
That's 1 of the only challenging parts of karapoti; if you can't make it as it is best to go for golf or darts.

    where

Without wishing to offend or upset anyone. Where exactly was the crash site? from the news articles it sounds like it was somewhere near long crossing or orange hutt area.
There is no easy fix for this. Enforcement of the rules may help for a while. And, indeed, preventing just 1 crash is still a plus. But there is not much else except closing it altogether.
Some people suggested making parts of it one way. But that is impractical. And potentially more dangerous as riders may think they have the whole track and run into the poor bloke who broke down and is limping back home the short way. I think 1 way only works in a managed situation.

Anyway. Hope to be back in there soon. Now I have fixed the wife's car (The one with the towbar)
