    Darmah petrol tank

I picked a up a tank at the weekend that i'm reasonably sure is a Ducati Darmah tank yet it has a screw in cap. It seems to be factory made so who can tell me what i've got, is it for a differnet model??

Std model had the generic italian gas cap that was a flip open type and was retained on the tank by a couple of spring loaded little keeper arms that hooked over little pins. Laverda had same fitment as did GT750 and prolly a shit load of others.

As far as I remember the Darmah didn't ever have a screw cap neither did the 500 or the 860s

Certainly has the Darmah look about it, cut the bottom off the tank and see if it's been welded in

other than the screw cap looks very Darmahry.
The italians were good at supplying the Brit industry.....metric tube Norton Commando frames. I think there was an Italian bike with a Triumph motor.

If that cap has been retrofitted they did a bloody good job of it.

    Have you measured that tank?

The rear doesn't quite look 'Darmah-ish' to me. Maybe from one of the paralysed twins Ducati made? But even then that cap is wrong.

Given the badges and cap, could it be a special made for Greeves? They did have some bikes with their own bodywork...

As Laava said the hinged cap was a generic part on dukes & a lot of wop bikes, though the last Darmahs in 83 & 84 to come from the factory were essentially parts bin specials it could be stock (rumoured to have been a couple of Darmahs that went out with complete MHR spec engines). But early Duke fuel caps were off set to the right on the tank and were screw on style not screw in.
