Shouldn't be in the jokes and Humour section?
L'arte italiana cammina su due rotelle!
it was in a cunt of a place too.
no doubt it will be back though.
All sounds pretty straight forward. They will just plonk it somewhere else, no drama.
I don't understand the complaints of revenue gathering. If you don't want to give them revenue then don't speed? Sounds pretty simple to me.
They only removed it because the road is being widened where it stood, not due to the improvements which have increased speeds dramatically into an intersection that has a pretty bad crash history already - did anyone see those huge skidmarks this morning? It will be back alright, only by then it will be a proper digital jobbie that won't rely on loops in the road that a bike can ride between or around.
Quick survey for the Dunedin riders. Any of you stick to 80km/h on the new bit?
I'd bet money on the mobile van parking in same area once peoples defences have dropped.... say about 2-3 weeks time.
Our two in Napier would be prime candidates to moved under the criteria stated in that article. The Kennedy road one is wasted now the traffic lights are gone and expressway flyover installed.
There's never really any accidents along Meeanee Quay in Westshore but probably a hell of a lot of holidays ruined by the camera there, one of the busiest ones in NZ.
There's heaps of serious accidents along the expressway, especially the stop sign but you never even see the van parked along there as nowhere for him to hide. The 'temporary' 80 zone and slalom sticks don't seem to have made a difference either...
i remember, back in about '95 when post mount cameras were new, some young wags climbed the pole of the kennedy road one and gaffer taped an acetylene bomb to the housing...petrol rag hanging down as a wick and you guessed it, BOOM SHANKA!!!!!!!!! enough to decommission the camera unit inside![]()

And I suppose you also think that if you don't want a ticjet for "passing on the left" you shouldn't lane-split?
There are plenty of other things that most of us do (not just on bikes) that are technically illegal for safety reasons that when done with care are perfectly safe.
"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin (1706-90)
"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending to much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it." - Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826)
"Motorcycling is not inherently dangerous. It is, however, EXTREMELY unforgiving of inattention, ignorance, incompetence and stupidity!" - Anonymous
"Live to Ride, Ride to Live"
Exactly!
Like "LEGAL" overtaking!
....if you do the math...to over take a truck that's doing 90kph, and you don't break the "speed limit" while passing it....you will be on the wrong side of the road for 1.8ks!!!(But that's the LEGAL way....it has absolutely nothing to do with road safety at all)
Hence, I ignore some facets of the law, and prefer to listen to the words of my riding instructor..."Plan your pass, and then do it as quickly & safely as possible...DON'T stay on the wrong side of the road for a second longer than required!
As for speed cameras!
REVENUE GRABBERS!...nothing more!
Or they would be used as they are in nearly ALL other country's...clearly sign posted, and placed in areas that require extra safety, like school zones etc...NOT hidden to ensure maximum revenue, and minimal road safety effect.
http://www.stuff.co.nz/motoring/blog...-revenue-first
Simple fact is...If they actually worked in reducing speed....the amount of tickets issued in the area would slowly reduce....NOT increase!-
http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/4986...camera-tickets
"Revenue from cameras rose by about $12 million to $50m last year, while revenue from officer-issued tickets dropped about $4m to $36m"
And yet!..."The mean speed on the open road last year was 96.2kmh, the lowest since a Transport Ministry survey began in 1995"
....hmmmm, funny that!...you would almost think that "speed DOESN'T kill"...and perhaps its actually a result of poor driving standards in this country, maybe even due to the amount of repeat road offenders & drunks being CONSTANTLY re-issued a license to KILL! (As are tourists and kids!...WHAT driving test?...the ability to parallel park?)
Shit, its such an obvious revenue grab...that even politicians can see whats happening-
http://www.whaleoil.co.nz/2013/04/re...#axzz2i6Pm2fx4
All it would take is an actual safety and driving ability test when getting your license, and a court system that has enough balls to come down hard on repeat drink drivers and blatantly dangerous drivers, and move away from the bullshit motto "speed kills"....because it doesn't!...poor driver skills do!
And I'm yet to see a machine that can weigh up the facts, issue a ticket if required AND give a road side safety education like Rastuscat, scummy and there work mates can
End of the day, Police! should be the ones doing the majority of the road safety POLICING....not fucking Kodak cameras!
Ride Safe KBers, and don't speed!...easiest way to avoid accidents and tickets
