    How long is too long?

Lets say you place an order with a reputable seller overseas.
how long would you expect it to take from the time you place the order, to the time they send it?
Im not talking about how long until you receive it, just how long should it take for them to receive, read, and send the order.
assume you have had contact with them since placing the order, and that as far as you are aware everything they are supplying is in stock (at least You havent been told otherwise) but you DO know that it hasnt yet been sent.

    thoughts on reasonable expectations?

yep, what I thought too. has been a week now, or 8 days, I lost count . .
payment made immediately, via paypal so no issues there.

Its possible they have to wit for something to come in from their supplier or something, which would be fine if they let me know that in the first place, so I emailed today asking when they reckon it will get sent. probably wont get a reply till tomorrow though since its coming from the US.

of course there is. Had the items I wanted all been available locally, Id have bought them locally, even it it had cost a little more. either way I was going to be doing some waiting, so hell, save a little money.
Im not in a rush for the stuff, and the seller has a great reputation, so I'm not concerned about dishonesty or anything like that, it just made me wonder what other peoples thoughts were on how long they think is reasonable.

Delivery periods from overseas can vary. A helmet turned up with 10 days of the order being placed and yet a pair of gloves took over a month, first choice was not available which took a while for them to let me know that.
You know your has not been sent because of the order status on the website?

Most suppliers I've dealt with stipulate that the order will be packed and sent out within 24 hours of payment being placed.

This is from the USA and they have all been on to it from step one.

I won't deal with the Poms though, because they can seldom keep their word or they simply fuck up the order.

Hell,I even buy my pre Hinckly Triumph parts from the States because of the better service.

I've done a lot of buying through the USA, both bike bits and other stuff and mostly used the YouShop warehouse in Portland to trans-ship it. As everyone else says, a couple of days max and 2 weeks tops from ordering to receiving (and never once being hit for duty despite some items being well above the threshold)

Who is the thread author dealing with?
Waiting on some parts from wemoto at moment. Site said 6-7 days when ordering, been over two weeks now. Most places will usually email if they are having to wait on something.
Used their enquiry thing last Thursday and no reply although I see today status updated with packing date...
Have had good experience with Procycles.us, quick and good communication. Emailed that Keintech outfit and didn't even get a reply so no sale there.
Tried NZ posts Youship service recently, saved a few days but man do they stuff about, arrived at their warehouse and 3 days before it left for NZ.

Re someone elses comment above I've worked in UK and yeah the work ethic isn't quite the same as the kiwi sense of urgency for getting things done. Very little freight moves overnight compared to here unless its on a premium service.
And then there are the major day long traffic jams to complicate things further...

The worst I've had was from newbonneville.com. 3 months from ordering to posting. Ordered 29/11/12. Posted 26/02/13. Arrived 08/03/13.

Their site showed the items to be in stock, and when I queried it with them after about 2 weeks, they apologised and said they would send the stuff in a couple of days which was bullshit. Long story short ... it turned out that they never had the stuff and were waiting on it to be manufactured overseas for them. The stuff showed as "in stock" for the whole time I was waiting and I've since heard from others that this is quite common for them. I won't be using them again.

I've bought plenty of other stuff from the US and UK with no issues - nice and quick. Although I did find one item a little odd - 2 days from UK to Auck and then 2 weeks from Auck to Chch.

No, you couldn't get the parts locally.

bought a few bits off wemoto, they were fast and efficient. maybe i got lucky?

you'd think online retailers would work a bit harder, its not hard to do a quick search and find all the bad shit people have posted on various forums. anyone buying online from overseas surely knows how to use google...

I know it hasnt been sent because their system sends an automatic confirmation with tracking.

Not wemoto, I wont name 'em cos they really havent done anything wrong!.
Turned out they are just waiting on one of the items to turn up fro their supplier. they could have been ahead of the curve and emailed to let me know, but they were quick to respond when I emailed and asked what the order status was

Was looking at some gloves on Revzilla 'tother day... $41.50US they wanted for shipping. Shit a brick.

Youshop, I reckon it's no more than $20-25NZ.... might have to give them a whirl.

Disclaimer: gloves not available in NZ, importer not interested

Don't forget the USA government shutdown. That also affected their postal services. I believe that things will be moving back to normal from monday.
