GSX1100E - Welcome to the fold

Might as well start a thread about turning this GSX1100E recently purchased in to a mint example.

1983 - Blue if you did not notice.
    33,900KM on the clock.

Missing the tank seat bracket, but have one on the way thanks to GS Resources. Side covers tabs all stuffed and a few other shit bits.

Bike has been down the road but its been repaired reasonably well. So there is not a lot for me to fix.

Dude I purchased this from was a bike mechanic and has fitted new rings. But one of the rubber cam grommet was not fitted correctly and pissed oil when I started the bike, Once I fixed that it ran very nicely. Most pleased. This this has new tyres front and back so the purchase price of $3200 I think was good.

Picture with side cover not fitted as all the tabs are missing. But it has the tool kit and is very original with low KM...

cant work out why the picture's are so small... seem to work ok if you click on them.

I have started a shopping list to fix all the little things.
Rear seat fairing rubber around the seat lock and Rear tail light lens and screws are on the shopping list.

Now back to the side covers as some will know I want to fix these.... all help appreciated.

The GSXR11 is cheap and low KM, love the GS that looks real nice. Any updated picture of the GS?

I sold it. I ran it at the quarter mile once then came across a fzr1000 that I wanted to race instead.

The gsxr has had over 30k on another speedo with a big time not registered so km could be anything.

And before everyone say... dumb ass you all ready asked the question on the side covers.
Yes I did and I meant to continue on how I am planning on fixing them but I had to go for tea.

So the fix I am planning is magnets and plastfix

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4RECGjEOnE

Going to use this stuff to secure a steel base to the side cover and then add the magnet and coat it in plastifix.
I will make up some new tabs on the frame to allow for the depth of two magnets and then bingo... they should mount up nicely all going well.

I like that product. No more melting felt pen plastic for me.

Looks like a clean example. Why new rings at only 33,000?

Like those in blue and silver. Came close to buying a gold one tho in later years but in the end didn't. Had the square headlight jobbie of 81, E..X?
I think the EZs had Katana motors, no ? (xtra 10 hp). 110 ?

You'd never go hungry with Nigella Gaz.

    Mossy is correct.
It had been sitting for some time and the dude I got it off pulled the head and fitted new rings as a precaution and to check everything else.
He then added new tyres and parked if up due to a change in circumstances.

    And I got it!

small detail... it might end up with a busa front end and a few other bits on it... Like I said keeping it mint standard... for now!

Yes about the motor, I got an 1135EFE motor but decided to stick with the original. Seem the numbers all match and all.

This is the second silver and blue one I have owned and had a gold one briefly. Why you ask?
The first one I sold to buy a Katana 750, now that was a mistake. But it got repowered so it ended well.
Then the gold one which was just a plain heap and needed heaps spent on it to get it running and I had to many other projects... SOLD
Then this one, needs FA to get up and running and I can use it while build other projects until its day arrives.

Up date on the side cover repair.
It is the easiest option, close to fail safe and the finish is great.

Can believe I did not think of it, Oh that's right I did.

    BUY NEW ONES..............

They are still available in red or gold at $84 USD, that's like $101 each.

    Not worth me pissing around.

Only issue is the colour, always liked Gold.
