    Yes, there is... some molecular level crap that I do not understand or remember. But, I can tell you that is why things like bootandnuke will change each bit 7 times to break that.

    Of course, the tech required for that sort of analysis is well beyond the $$$$ the NZ Police would ever spend.

    It doesn't apply to SSDs either, they have no magnetic bits on platters. I'm not sure if they have a similar effect that can be utilised by forensics though.
