It is illegal to pass on the left in the same lane, unless the vehicle on your right is stopped (ie: waiting to turn right). It is perfectly legal in NZ to pass a vehicle travelling in the right lane while you are in the (separate) left lane.

In fact on Auckland's Southern motorway the left lane usually has the least traffic and flows the fastest because of all the idiots trying to drive in the so-called "fast" right lane!

Passing in the left lane is illegal in the UK however, but so is driving in the right lane unless passing...

Ok so why did I get it wrong when I did answere that you are not supposed to pass useing the left lane. (BTW in the road code it says that you can pass in the left lane if the road is clear and the car in the right lane is stopped or going less than speed limit )

    No...

And considering that when I got down here, everyone (including a few cops) said the best way to explore the country is to hitchhike.

Maybe their definition of motorway needs to be more specific. Doesn't matter will be taking the test again soon and this time I will pass.

Err, didn't you answer your own question? You are allowed to pass using the left lane. The bit about the speed limit is a red herring as you are not allowed to exceed the speed limit when passing, therefore in order to pass a car it must be travelling at less that the speed limit.

    (Yeah right )

One of my oral questions was "What is the speed limit for towing a trailer".
This was just after the speeds changed for this.
I said I had no idea as I was trying for a motorbike licence.
Still have no idea but didn't it just change again recently?

Those tests are so easy. Tough shit if this is sounding harsh but I can't understand how anybody can fail the test if they actually paid attention to the shit they read in the roadcode.

Yeah I know some stuff may not make sense in a practical situation such as indicating out of a roundabout when going straight through for example, But if it's written in the book then damn well consider it the correct answer for the test - it's really not worth putting the 'sensible real life answer' in if its gonna make you fail the test.

Comeone, nothing personal but no one can bitch about failing these theory tests, they are piss easy, too easy in my honest opinion.

    Cool

    The answer is so obvious.
    D. You are NOT allowed to pick up any hitch hiker on the motorway.
I think there are even a few signs up around the entrance way to the motorways.

Waylander - There are two roadcode books that you should have gotten.
The car road code and also the motorbike road code books.
Ok one wasn't available at your local library, so then you go to another library.

They are two different types of vehicles so different things to learn.
Reading just before sitting it means you havent had time enough to learn it properly.

You can buy the book at whitcoulls for $25.
