Just kinda teasing him cause everything he has said so far you or someone else has said before. Not gonna faze me one bit. In too good a mood today, starting work Saturday and maybe getting another job somewhere up north if things go right and finally got my speedo cable. It is in most countries with effective road safety laws.

Well there it is folks. Took the test again and this time passed it with straight aces. So, sorry to say but, John you're wrong. This country isn't rejecting me, just making the relationship a bit difficult. Like the women in most of my other relationships.

Always thought it a damn silly rule m'self (no passing on the left on a multi lane road).

After all, you obviously can't apply it in city traffic - or straight ahead traffic would have to slow down and stop , just because right turning traffic couldn't proceed.

And on a motorway/multilane highway, each lane is effectively equivalent to your own single lane road. Where's the problem? You stick in your lane, they stay in theirs. It's not like someone trying to undertake you in your lane, or on a one lane road. You've got the whole lane width to do your stuff, set your lines etc. Why is it no problem if there's a vehicle to your left moving at the same speed as you, but it's suddenly the end of the earth because he creeps a length ahead of you?

I suspect that in the UK it's a hangover from the days before multilane roads, and the Poms haven't caught up with the 20th century yet. And do the usual "neep neep neep , it's different to back home , wah wah wah " thing.

Just look right AND left. Most bikes have two mirrors. That's all that's needed.

The trade off for not passing on the left (or right as the case may be) is strictly controlled lane discipline. Trucks stay in the inner lanes only, not waft all over the place as here.
You wouldn't last long in the fast lane of an Autobahn at 130 k's. (or even 160)

    [QUOTE=crashe]The answer is so obvious.
    D. You are NOT allowed to pick up any hitch hiker on the motorway.
I think there are even a few signs up around the entrance way to the motorways.
    QUOTE]

honestly....the hitchhiker one got me as well while studying....i defined motorway as highway. i had to have it explained to me what the difference was. i associate motorways with big cities. the closest around here is auckland, lol. when i was studying for the test, i got friends to drill me on the least known topics [like hitchikers, yellow, blue and white reflectors on the road and what they mean, etc.] turns out the bits i studied most werent what i needed to know for it.

crashe, just read your other post re: pulling over for emergency vehicles. does that also apply for funerals? cos no one seems to anymore, but i always have and will.

Funerals - ummmmmmm check your road code for that one...

I do know when the funeral procession is coming from the oposite direction...
I make sure that I slow down to 50km (when on the city streets) and pay my respects to the dead person with a slight nod, even thou I don't know them... I don't tend to pull over to the far left of the road thou.

If they are ahead of me I dont overtake on the bike at all.
Tend to find another way if necessary.
If they are behind me.. then it doesn't matter cos you are going at 50km.

They do travel at a slower speed thou.. But cant remember what speed they go at. The cars in the procession have their car lights on as well.

I have a cementary not too far away from me... (8 minutes away) and I have been quite lucky that I havent been stuck in a funeral procession when going out and about that often.

they didnt have anything on funerals in the biker road code...

think ill just stick to pulling over and letting them pass, no matter where they are and find another way if necessary. seems to be the more respectful/safer option.
