Heads up: NW Auckland Event 10/11/2013

If you're heading out for a Sunday ride, this Sunday Bike the Bridge is on: http://bikethebridge.co.nz/

Lots of cyclists will be out and about during the morning (heads over the harbour bridge from the south at 0600). The route goes up the busway, then through Albany, but the long 115km course will go up SH17, Kahikatea Flat Rd, Peak Rd and Old North Rd and then back via Ridge Rd and Paremoremo Rd (these two roads are also used on the shorter 50km course).

Just exercise a little caution as there could be some congestion with cars wanting to get by, and a higher than usual number of cyclists etc.

Please be advised, you are recommended to leave the bike at home and take the tank instead for one day.

If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.

Standard road rules apply, and roads are open to public, so yes, and if overtaking then it would be 2 abreast (and it should never be more).

However, like any cross section of road users I'd expect some to forget rules. Ipods/other MP3 players were specifically banned from the Auckland Marathon last Sunday, and some forgot those rules. Perhaps some were reminded it's about safety when they had a 1/4 ton motorcycle bearing down on them (with another bearing down on that motorcycle - and that one being chased by a runner)

The most law abiding road users are in fact cyclists

I blame Justin! He's the one who called ya bike a tank first! But hey we are talking Auckland here, I quite do mean a tank literally!
