    Track day bikes?

Im going to set my partners 650 up as a track day only bike as she no longer rides it. What are the rules around this? I wont be racing, just taking it to track days. It wont have a WOF as its on hold and I will be removing the road gear.

As long as it passes scrutineering it is fine.
I was told that they are a little harder on track bikes.

So there is nothing special i have to do on it then? no wire locking etc? I will be going right over it as its been sitting for 18 months.

Keep it to wof standard (obviously excluding lights/mirrors etc) and you'll be fine.

For the safety and peace of mind of those on track with you, I'd recommend at least lockwiring the sump bung. The oil filter can have a hose clip on it, wired back to something solid to prevent it turning as well.

    Enjoy - then come racing.

remove road gear. check bike over. turn up. pay your fee. thrah the tits off it.
you might have scrutineering where you are, or you might not. Ive been to quite a few trackdays, and never once have I seen a non dedicated race bike get checked over period. pretty crazy given alot of them are repeatedly doing 2, approaching 3 times the open road speed limit!

Thats stuff I had planned to do anyway. My road bike has the clip round the oil filter.

Well thats all good then. Easy as.

Lock wire the sump plug, oil filter and oil filler cap and swap out the coolant for non-glycol one.

If you do more than an occasional track day you should probably invest in some engine case protectors. If it's an SV it's definitely going to end up with a hole just behind the starter motor so an enclosed belly fairing would be a very good thing. These two are dependent on budget but recommended if you don't want to the that guy that stopped the day.

nzspokes-My honest advice if the bike is an SV650,er6 etc would be don't bother. Give it a big ol cut n polish rego/wof it and sell it.
Then invest the money in a dedicated ex race or track bike already set up.
Something like a k5 gsxr600 or a cbr600 or similar where the money and time have already been spent.

There a number of reasons I suggest this. The guts is though its generally a LOT easier/cheaper in the long run

I want to keep it as my partner may be able to ride a track day again one day, a cbr,zxr etc she wont be able to get on due to her injuries. The hyobag she should be able to ride with the stock bars back on.

They seem to go ok in pro Twins. It will do me to start out on.
