I had a chat with one of the greybeards on the toy run this weekend. They seem like a decent lot. He said that the Brotherhood Bikers initially formed in Wellington out of the Harley Owners Group, and was first affiliated with an American organisation of the same name. They are now a standalone outfit, and welcome riders on any machine (although to be honest I think you'd be a bit out of place on a sprots bike with leather any colour other than black). The charter and rules etc were because the club had charitable organisation status, although have subsequently been deregistered.

I think old school (biker) values sums them up quite well from an outsiders point of view. Good on them for 'organising' the (un-official) toy run. It was a nice ride and good to see a big stack of toys for the kids at the end of the day.

The brotherhood President, used to be the organiser/president/ of the local hog group, they (married couple) formed the 'original' brotherhood group after being replaced in the hog group... Guess some people have a 'need' to belong.

Just because and organisation organises a toy run or similar event, doesn't make them Good Buggers in my eyes. For example Hells Angels does a lot of "community work" in places where it has chapters. That is nothing more than a cynical attention grab to curry favour with people who may otherwise think they're just a bunch of drug-dealing, thieving, violent, psychopathic, women-hating thugs.

I recently got an email from a guy I used to work with in the USA, among other things he wrote about the Hell's Angels having an intellectual property lawyer who's taken various people to court over infringments about H A branding.

Over the last 7 years he's put 12 cases through the courts. It seems the outlaws are much more inlaws these days.

Happens all the time, TV3 were taken to court about 10 years ago for use of the brand and lost.

Everyone seems a bit too worried about what other bikers / motorcyclists (or whatever) may or may not stand for and may or may not be doing and may or may not think. If they're not hurting anyone or doing anything (too) illegal, isn't there room for all of us?

We moan at them for all looking the same and having rules, and yet the reason we moan, is because they don't conform to what we think is right (ie: our rules!)

I stand corrected, i worked in a company that employed them both at one point, and was given the impression that they were 'high level' in HOG at the time .....

Oh wow this is quite exciting.

Been reading "No Angel" and thought all of that was only in the states. Very interesting to find out the extent it is here in NZ
