Insurance i havent checked yet, but hopefully short term 3rd party wont be too expensive.

On that subject......can anyone advise what 3rd party insurance for a $5000 bike could be....ball park?? is it possible to get cover for 1 month or is there a min cover period?

When i was in NZ i got my bike from "coleman's suzuki". They're very close to the city center, so it was very easy for me to walk over there a couple of times to arrange stuff.
There is also a red barron nearby but i had a lot more confidence in doing business with Mike from cs in the end

Super helpfull and they will help you out with anything you want ... worth a visit !

For insurance i went for www.kiwibike.co.nz ... You could say i'm the living proof because i ended up crashing my bike and have no complaints about their service :P

    Cheers,

Be aware it's considered one of the most dangerous roads in the country, rental companies do not cover the road etc.

Realistically, it's a narrow gravel road with blind corners, that would otherwise be typical and fine, except for the number of vehicles on it, and plenty seem to think they are the only ones on it. Take it easy and be careful, and you should be fine. Just watch out for the buses moving tourists out to the jet boating platform, they use the whole road even when it's wide
