    Tiddlers tour the East Cape?

Hi, I am planning on going around the East Cape over the Christmas period and thought I would invite anyone along who wants to join. Now the very basic plan at this stage is Whakatane, Opotiki, Cape, Gisbourne, Wairoa, Ureweras, Murapara, Whakatane over 4/5 days. Taking in as many interesting roads as possible. Dates are flexible at this time as is the route. Camp where ever we end up at the end of the day. Tiddlers because that what I will be riding, CT110. Bigger capacities will not be discriminated against but understand that it ain't a race.
    So anyone keen?

you could incorporate the motu track...but i guess you'd have to doubleback along it to stay on the coasty parts

    I'm in.

Your last trip over the Motu and roads back of Gisborne was a cracker - with more days planned, this one will be better.

The Tiniroto road between Gisborne and Frasertown has a couple of dirt loops off it, or if going down the coast route to
Wairoa, I know lots of great tracks in the Mahia - Nuhaka - Wairoa areas.

    Any date fixed yet ?

    Cheers,
    Bernard.

Dates pencilled in as Monday Jan 13th till we get home, Thursday or Friday. No rush plus don't want to miss any good options. Suggestions so far (thanks Platypus) are

    1. Definitely to the East Cape lighthouse.

    2. At Ruatoria, take the track inland to get as close to Mt Hikurangi as we can (first place to get the sun).

    3. Here's a real challenge - perhaps impossible - but one I have been thinking of trying for

years now. You'll need to go to Google Maps in Earth View (or better, Google Earth) to see what I mean.

The road is visible only as a track in some places, but when I was a kid it was a through road, if only for

farmers and forestry. It starts about half way between Gisborne and Nuhaka on Highway 2 at Wharerata.

There, the Paritu Road starts on the left and goes south between the coast and highway 2. It changes to the

Mahunga Road, and ends up at Mahunga Beach. Now, that would be some adventure !! Might have to lift

the bikes over a fence or two.

    4. The Parikanapa loop off the Tiniroto Road would also be a real isolated challenge, though not

as much as the Paritu Road, that's for sure.

Has anyone got info on these?

    Any other suggestion welcome.

Are the Mahia East Coast, Tawapata, Wainuiorangi roads all public roads?

I have been trying to find a road that does as bigger loop as possible around the Ahuriri - Tawapata bay area.
