    British fasteners wanted

I've just begun a Velocette restoration and am looking for a supplier of decent quality BSF/BSW nuts and bolts, preferably in the Auckland or Waikato area.

    Any pointers welcomed.

Any trade fastener supplier will have BSW and possibly BSF but what you'll find is a lot of Cycle thread fasteners used on the Velo...

Try the Maddock's in Welsford. If you're really serious it is often worth buying the common size taps and dies which are available from the UK.

If you have old ones in half decent nick you can nickel/zinc plate and passivate at home quite easily. I just bought a kit from Gasteros in the UK. Must be someone locally doing something similar?

Ken McIntosh has some british cycle thread stuff. No normal engineers supplies will have it.

BSW and UNC are all but the same thread pitch apart from 1/2" "BSW is 13 threads per inch , UNC is 12.."
1/4 , 5/16 , 3/8 are the same.. There is a very slight diffrents in thread root depth but it,s so
    small...
they do fit each other... if yer get stuck..

Whitworth is also 55 degrees, SAE 60 - more room for loctite....cycle is 60 too. I'd just go SAE - UNF, UNC, easier to find and pretty close enough. Depending on the year, Velocete should've changed over...so do it for them.

Cycle thread is (IIRC) 26TPI or is that for only one particular diameter?
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

All cycle thread sizes are 26 TPI, whether it be 1/4" or 1-1/4". BSB (British Standard Brass thread) is also 26 TPI and taps and dies are more easily obtainable. I got my set a few years ago from Trade Tools, they probably still could supply them if you want to make your own bolts. Just buy longer ones and re-thread them. That wont give you Whitworth size heads but AF spanners are more common anyway.

Thruxton, one of the last GP-equipped versions. I already have a load of cycle thread nuts and bolts but this bike has a lot of Whitworth and BSF on it.

Replating might be the way to go, actually- most of the bolts on this bike have Rubery Owen on the hex.

Am aware of Ken McInto$h but was looking for a supplier who will not attach Manx prices to everything.

Will check out Cycletorque and the Maddocks.

Cheers, and thanks all for the suggestions.
