I remember when an MOT bike cop who was wearing the MOT issue open face pudding basin fell of one of those shitty CBX650's with the handlebar mounted screen (got the speed wobbles as I remember) and slid along the road on his face. It was not long after the MOT allowed them to choose their own full face lids as long as they had the pop up chin piece.
Nope. There's no good reason to compel anyone to do anything. Especially when it comes to the choice of legally available helmet. He has an awesome attitde, he knows he fucked up and the construction firm have been bloody good. The people responsible for the unmarked crater usually retreat behind a wall of lawyers. Let's not blame his injuries on not wearing what you consider an appropriate helmet. That's the sort of thing the Government loves to hear.

It's like that retarded "speeding" ad they've launched. The dude with his kid in the back pulled out onto the main road without checking properly. It's his fault. His responsibility to check properly before exiting an intersection or driveway. No one elses. Let's see them make an ad where the driver makes a mistake and pulls out in front of motorcyclist and kills him. Like FUCK they'll make that.

You're talking about flip front helmets.

Interestingly, places like California, the motorcycle cops still often use 1/2 or 3/4 helmets, due to it "enhancing their communication with the public". I wince when I see that, sure, they're skilled, but it doesn't stop someone pulling out on them (which happens).

My two helmets are flip fronts, very handy for a multitude of things.

Phoned the Waipa district council. They didn't think it was too much to worry about.

Mate what I ment was the outcome may have been better with a full face lid. He (and anyone else) can wear whatever lid he wants for all I care.

I know what you meant. The word is full of "shoulda, woulda, coulda", but it's pointless. I've seen people lose teeth and eyes wearing a full face. I've lost teeth wearing a full face.

Convenient. But overall the worst in noise world and not as strong as a normal full face.

Not that I care either - I use an open face quite a lot.

Dont know what time that was but when I went through there at around 1545hrs, there was a cone on the section (being in the middle of the lane) and also evidence of dirt/cement/"road building stuff" being placed in and around the hole. God to know they were at least reactive. Curious though to know what time you called them

Did the helmet get smashed, or come loose?

I think their point is that just because you make a mistake you should not have to pay the ultimate price for it, and other road users should factor that into their driving. I was approaching a roundabout on my bike going to work the other day and the car who should have given way did not appear to be slowing down enough so I braked and stopped. My feeble 1974 BMW horn told him I was not happy...he gave a 'sorry wave"
I only had my light on, hi viz jacket on, so no wonder really......and he was not from round there here parts either....

They probably wont make the bike add as less people relate to it, an motorcyclists are generally more aware of the lack of "opps" factor.

Hands up who has never made a bad decision on the road and got away with it.

Jesus that's a big hole! If they still haven't done anything, but it sounds like they have, I've got a cool big orange cone we can whack in front of it. Buggered if I know where it came from but I've been looking to do something useful with it I think they're actually made for this type of thing too, unless you're in Dunna's. Then they're used to decorate, and drink shit loads of piss out of.

Yep, drove through one of those yesterday evening in the car, pretty hard to see just on dark and the same colour as the surrounding road.

Definately need to keep your wits about you on a bike in good old ChCh these days...

Funny the way we get used to safety gear and would then be uncomfortable without it. Wore open face for years wouldn't consider it now. Rode through a swarm of wasps recently, full face was a definite plus.

Had a BMW "golfball" sytem helmet and thought it was noisy and blamed the noise on the join so haven't worn a flip face since.

On that bloody ad, I see it has received praise overseas, presumably for the production values. My problem with the ad is it talks about other people making mistakes. Therefore the 90 percent of driving impaired fuckwits that travel our roads in the firm, but baseless, belief that they are good drivers will think it doesn't apply to them.
