Just got off the phone with the old man,tis his old bike for sure as he dug out some paperwork then got a mate in christchurch to have a look at it ie frame numbers etc, somewhere along the way historys got a bit fuddled as its actually had 3 owners i thought he sold it to your mate, the guy that had it between them only owned it for a very short time.He said his Mrs told him to buy the thing as a bit of a project but he reckons hes not interested though did add he has the auction on alert so who knows, hes a crafty bugger so wouldnt be surprised if he ends up with it.His bet is that at very best it will get to $25k and no more.Fwiw its 145k not 45 which goes without saying really. When the thing arrived from Aus it had the single seat stuff with it,wonder where that is.He did say if it was the SS he had before this one he would be tempted to get the cheque book out.

I wouldn't have been suprised if it was 245k, he used to do a lot of riding on it

I didn't ever see a single seat on it in the time I rode with him

Odd that fella bidding $17050 then within a minute and no other bids going to $18000.I still reckon no more than 25 and hopefully it goes to a bloke up in Nelson ensuring it stays local and kept nice.

So hypothetically speaking...if you bought this bike would you:
A: give it a service and ride it as is?
B: spent lots and lots restoring it to new?
C: put it in the back of the shed.
D: put it in the lounge and watch it get 4% plus a year instead of the bank.

Its passed my toy buying limit, but I'd just get it serviced, fit a set of black non piggyback Ohlins, emulators to the front end and ride it.

A and C about the same as i do with my Darmah, it dose about 60 to 120 km a year . i tried at 15 k , thought it was a reasonable offer , but knew it was worth more.

yes.....my Darmah does about 1 tank of gas a year.....
The old pipe and Slippers BMW R90 commutes, tours and even been round the circuit at Taupo, on display at a show next weekend.
Every year I say to Darmah " This is your year".... then something else turns up.....
Last time I saw an SS being used was at Hampton Downs and it highsided in front of me....

A: if I could afford to, That's what the MHR was going to be for but things didn't work out

When I had my Darmah back in the mid nineties it knocked up about 50,000km over 6 years without being used that much

    A. for me.

But I'd never pay that much for one.......... meh, reconsider. IF I had that kind of 'toy' money maybe I would. I would be on the list.

I'd still like to ride it, otherwise what's the fucking point?

So $25 eh,the old fella figured right.Having a yarn about the bike with him last night and he got talking of racing it at wigram with John Britten onboard another SS,they got talking between races and Britten noticed the scrape marks on the bottom of the kickstart and righthand exhaust and said "no wonder i cant catch you",they went on to become good mates.
