That was the public release of the new 750. XR1200s are old and if they haven't ceased production are about to be dropped.

They don't fit HD's vision. They're doing better in the youth market with 48s, Irons, 72s and Nightsters than they ever did with the XR1200 which appealed to a very small fraction of sportsbike riding non-traditional HD customers who have since chopped their XR1200s in on Euro Super-nakeds instead of upgrading (in HD's view) to a big-block of some sort.
The 500/750 is an attempt to provide a youth-market/emerging-market platform with the tech required to pass modern emissions laws in a cost-effective fashion.
