Could someone shed some light as to why this person is asking this question..

    Do I smell something fishy?

The guy asking the questions has a history of listing selling then not completing the trade

If you don't like a question on TM don't answer it, it will not be displayed then.

Shit prices are up there. Number one is a tidy unit. Bet the rear Ohlins are ex XR1300? So I'm thinking it would probably $9.5k if all original. Less with the mods despite them being improvements.

Bobber ........... a fun looking ride. Front knobbly gives me the shits ........ price ......... W O W

Imagine trying to find tires for the 23inch front hoop, it was hard to find them 20 years ago............
They were likely only ever fitted to about 4 models of bikes from memory and then for a couple of years .CR and XR's not even sure if any XL's had them.
I'd like to do something similar to the first one with a RD400, but can't recall the last time I seen one.

CR's never had them. XL500 and 250 and XR500 and 250. 1979 and 1980, so yeah four models. Pretty sure BS still make them but piss all choice of tread pattern. I don't want to scratch my eyes by having another look at that PILE OF EXCREMENT, but it didn't look like it had a 23" rim to me.

Totally not worth it, but he might actually get it. I remember doing a trawl of the Auckland bike shops in the early 90s and I was struck that every shop had a tidy XS650 for like 5k when the would struggle to make 2 in wellywood.

They're a bit crap. But people seem to like them.

Yeah - nothing special in the day. Got a real following now. I guess a 'British' twin without the associated problems.

Good aftermarket for engine bits now too.

Ironically the Yammy is getting as pricey as a .............. British twin

Yes they did. Well at least one model of CR did anyway. The CR125 had one in 1979. (So did the 79 RC125 but they only made a few of those and even they picked and chose) But yeah the other one was okay though, but I never even looked at the prices.

Is this a case of a modified bike going for original money?

Whilst I have no clue as to the value - you could maybe get away with saying the Mods are consistent with bikes of that era and so consider it an original
