Aha! More fuel equals POWER! Someone call an engine tuner right away and tell them that have been doing it wrong for years.
In all seriousness this method relies on the "butt dyno" which from my experience getting horsepower out of cars is very unreliable. Like the poor soul who dyno'd his WRX, went and put a big exhaust on it them dyno'd it the next day on the same dyno. He lost about 5kw from memory. He was mortified.

You can also use a trim pot (variable resistor) that's Way adjustable As is, the boost bleed tee and valve, all under a few bucks. But I think you missed the point.

The air temp sensor. (assuming you are talking the trim pot or the resistor)
People also used to mount an additional cold start injectors just south of the throtsal body and wire in a adjustable boost pressure switch to fire it only at high boost.
There were other ways as well with other dodges but the air temp fooling was the most common, but like I said it was 90's cheapo tech.
It was used back when ECU were not programmable or were ubber expensive. A few hot chip set ups were actually in reality, just as I described. An air bleed for the wastegate and a resistor on the air temp.

If you tap it to the air temp sensor, you've got an extremely small level of difference between that field's full rich and full lean. If ya do it my way you can go too far if it bars you up.

Like I said above I think you are missing the point, it wasn't about what was the best way, it was the cheapest and easiest work around solution. in those way back when times.
That's off course not including the then in vogue 90's piggyback tolulene injection or the water metho with the windscreen washer pump injection and reservoir dodge.
By the way your solution is vastly inferior to simply using a simple rising rate pressure regulator, which is again of course vastly inferior to any modern way of doing it.
