I thought it more likely there was a bad batch and if your bike had those you were in trouble. From memory the cam followers were only about $100 each - but there's sixteen of them.

S4R had the Testastretta 996 which was 5yrs development over the 996 Desmoquattro used in the 916SPS
But the referral to being a brittle engine was more directed towards the 955 due to the fact they'd maxed out the engine casings and under race conditions and had plenty suffer from cracking & stress fracturing

Anybody here care to comment? I know nothing about Ducatis really but $43k seems like a lot of money. Having said that: iconic model (916) and rare-ish variant (SPS) as I understand it. plus under a thousand km.
they made so may limited edition bikes that there's a flood of them around so nothing really special about them really, every second man and his dog has one

It might be a tad too picky of me but he says, "Wired for a trickle charger".
    A. That's hardly a big deal,
    B. Different charger brands use different connectors.

I did a bit of Googling as I've never seen one of them. 155 made for the USA and 155 for the UK. THe USA has the standard engine with better suspenders and of course the graphic fruit. UK got a hotted engine as well. UK should be worth more?

In the USA in 02 they were US$22,695 - now it appears they sell around $US10-15k depending on kms. Hardly a good investment.

Coys had one in the UK estimated to go for 17 -20,000 pounds! http://www.coys.co.uk/cars/2002-duca...m-race-replica

One thing for sure - it's one of the most unattractive 'special' limited edition Ducatis I've seen (personal opinion, if you love it tug away).

And they don't appear to get ridden a lot - all had really low kms, which for a lounge bike or pure collector is probably good, but if you wanted to actually use one I'd be avoiding something that only got started once a year and ridden 50kms ...

I reckon this would be a better Ducati 'investment' if I win Lotto tomorrow night I may just give the seller a call. A good way to start my collection ..... hmmm sand cast 750/4 next ....

That's the same guy. Wonder what else he's got?

Well actually, he's got quite a lot and the ones I checked look like recent imports. He's got himself a good source wherever it is.

Hmmmmm he does. Bimotas even. I'd figure NZ is a fairly limited market for exotic collections but I may be completely wrong as over the years I have bumped into a number of collectors of motorcycle greatness.

It looks to be in good nick, probably between 4k and 6k before taking into account the bikes history? There have been a few newer models not go for as much as they should on Trademe recently but that may have just been people saving their pennies for Christmas. There was another 1000 (slightly newer I think) sitting on Trademe at 4100 for quite a while with similar k's but it was pretty much the base model, it hasn't been re-listed (after being put up a couple times) so I assume it finally went.

    Thanks for that....
Yep, I was going to advertise it for $4500 no reserve or just a classified. There is a shit load of spares!
