I dunno...I quite like the 50's/60's styling, but I am over projects.

I don't know man - I like those scooters. Unsure of the value he's after.

Hmmm, I'd like to re-power it with a Honda motor or similar.

Try and track down a 50s Vespa Faro Basso (low light) that's where the money is with the old scooters

I suspect it is all a bit too far gone, to be taken seriously.

The projects, I like to buy, are usually >75% of the way through and the owner has other priorities, like keeping the good old marriage together

For what it is I agree - probably why the current owner has given up - took it somewhere to get a quote to have the rust cut out and replaced and discovered what he was in for.

No but he must have very large shed, been selling a lot of Italian bikes from Japan.

The 500 version that is on TM would be the lesser of the two evils.

Interestingly the same styling at the Darmah.

From memory it was a 60's engine design to fill a gap prior to Tagliolini's Pantah, the grandfather of all the belt drive Duc's

Taglioni used the engine design as a test bed for the Pantah the Pantah uses the same valve angle and combustion chamber design.
Aussies are good at making them go real quick...Peter Smith's (EPICYCLE) 500 Sport is a good example

The 650 Benelli twin is the same head shape and porting - but is let down by a crap valve train.
I got a surprise when I saw inside a 650. Pretty close copy of the Duc head.

I had to Google check that, only the Desmo version, and once Tago touched it and Tartarini restyled it the price was too high.
Styling was salvaged to make the ugly 900GTS the Darmah.
I remember a line from years ago " speed costs money Son, how fast do you want to go?"

Mick Walker's article "The Ugliest Duckling" goes into some depth on them the GTL500 spawned the Sport which used the same 'Whale Tail' as used on the early Darmahs
Well of course speed costs money; The Epicycle bike was a race bike that had been taken out to 720cc & 12thou redline Venolia high comp pistons TT2 spec cam big valves twin plug Piranha ignition etc
Even Ian Gowanloch raced one in the late 70s too....both him & Smith would know a few wee things about dukes

I'm in awe how much people spend on Classic Race bikes, you can drop 20K into a Norton Commando very easily, those plastic cups must be valuable.
