Well this guy's a fuckwit. He is selling something with a RRP of $1199 (and which I have been offered at $1099) second hand for $1050.

The only reason I didnt buy the one yesterday (in Christchurch FFS) was because I forgot to bid. Though I would have got blown out - I would have ended at $750.

    Plus I like VU meters.

I find auctions like that weird - loves it, sad to see it go, only had 6 months, has not even explored it yet ...... but is selling? Maybe can't afford the payments anymore?

    Too expensive as well.

May I be permitted a brief digression?

McIntosh audio gear has a good reputation and having had it in a car I thought I would check it out when replacing my 1960s turntable and amp.
    Good news! They are available.

At that time a turntable was $20,000. An amp was a relative steal at only $15,000 but to play vinyl you needed a pre amp - and another $15,000. So that's $50,000 with speakers still to come if required.

I'm not at all unhappy, but needless to say I don't have a McIntosh system in the house.

You're looking at big Macs. Their integrated's have a phono preamp, a lot of the heft of the big gear plus if you like McIntosh you will like them.

Even the baby integrated is like 80-100W a side (real Watts too not pretend). I wouldnt buy a Mac turntable though they do look cool as fuck with that light shining through the platter.

    Heres an MA5200 for $7k: https://www.listeningpost.co.nz/Spec...31436__N.26801

    Heres an MA8000 for $15k https://www.listeningpost.co.nz/Spec...31436__N.26801

I'd look at some of the big Paradigms and maybe a Rega RP6 - I had a listen to some Sonus Fabers recently and they were great too.

New Zealand manufacturers make some really good mid to high level kit: Perreaux and Plinius. One of my mates has a setup featuring some B & W CM9's, a plinius SA250 and a valve preamp and it is stellar.

I just want an amp with a bit more punch than the 25WPC vintage Sansui I am currently using. those Yamahas are really good bang for the buck.

Yamaha stuff is lovely, my amp was $35 off trademe (OK, I had to fix it, but still) and pokes enough current to blow the tweeters in my kef codas when the daughters friends got a bit carried away at her 21st...

    No VU meters though.

I blame being born with rooted ears then finishing it off with 2x 12" subs in my mates mean as Integra doing laps in Hamilton.

Yeah reallity intrudes. I qualify for free hearing aids, at 100kph on the bike the loudest sound is the tinitus.

On the other hand I'm not married so I can put the speakers wherever I like. An electrician, here to give a quote, told me a lot of the stereos he sees will never sound any good. They've got the magic mega-buck cables and all but there's a china cabinet where one speaker cabinet needs to be and a table where the other one should be, so the speakers are too close together.

    Know what you mean....

The volume I use for background music now used to be reserved for partying.....

WTF - brand new they are $8,995 on Suzuki NZ website. Apparently he has spent a extra $5k on it .............. and cracked the screen on the garage door. How do you do that when the bars are significantly wider?
