Why is this $3500 motorcycle being advertised for $6200? Why Jebus?
That piece of shit (sorry) that bike is 37 years old - a classic piece of shit (sorry) a classic bike - got to add value ..

Rear end looks wrong on the XV. Yes I agree it looks well built but the proof is when you try work on it and find the hidden bodges quite often pretty bikes have. Cynical only through bad experience.

And then you are still left with an XV750. And a 9 grand hole (tm Joycey) in your budget that could have bought something quite useful.
Don't you look at my accountant.

I think they were going for a Vincent look with the rear end and seat support? Not my cup of tea but better than most on TM.
There was some rather nice touches on that bike like the old handle bar mount holes carring the choke and key etc.
But they should have started with the chain drive TR1

the series D vincents where they changed the rear of the seat to go to the frame rather than off the RFM -rear frame member/swing arm has to be one of the ugliest changes ever made to a bike, that and the enclosed sweries D fucked the brand, as well as the cost to develop the amanda waterscooter, which didn't work, the fibreglass issues they ahd with the enclosed bikes and trying to get it right, the failed deal trying to produce the vindian an indian with a vincet motor in it, and the cold war and sales embargos to argentina, phil vincent was argentinian and a large proportion of vinnies went there, but of course were stopped.
i have been offered several series D's, i wouldn't touch one with a barge pole.

It was that model that sprung to mind when i seen the pic of the cafe bike.
I cant remember but wern't the d's the only to have diecast cases.
Everything i ever read said the tooling was well fucked towards the end, with more stuff being rejected than usable.
the Vinnys big problem was i believe that like all the pommy bikes they were to labour intensive to build.
The enclosure thing wasn't all their fault though it was all the rage, bathtubs were popping up and getting thrown out all over the show.
To my mind a Grey flash is about the best looking.

If it was cheap enough, I would - but I'd immediately turn it into something else...

They're a bit like the Ducketty Paso - a great source of parts.

If you need a really big jelly mould
    Or some 16 inch wheels
    Or some crap webbers
Or a lame duck 750 twin.

    Sorry. What was left?

Some nice forks and brakes - and in the case of the 906, quite a useful engine.

It does look really nice. No idea where the asking price has come from, that's sky high.

Finally a decent looking cafe rear end. Ironically from a 900SS I suspect.

OK that's not that ironic. It's something.
