OK, so its a "Genuine" Lotus Cortina. Fifty grand's worth, buuuuuuuut:

This is a genuine Lotus Cortina. It has a very sound body with only minor rust blemishes on the bonnet. It was an original UK car but was reshelled some 30 years ago from a solid donor from Australia and has done approx 9,300 miles since
What the hell, man? I totally get that (for example) its not uncommon to re-shell a rally car or race car (particularly if you are as talented as I am...).

It appears to me that Grandads axe has had one handle too many to be called a "genuine" anything.

In fact, while we're on the subject:

I love this and reckon it would be fun. Except it isnt a CL50, its got a Lifan 150 in it. and a bunch of other modifications, more or less tasteless.

I would own it at $1500 I reckon.

Yeah...the car fraternity are content with "continuous identity". That one is as genuine as most - and more so than some.
Many years back I bought a Datsun 1600SSS. It was apparent it had been reshelled - vendor made no secret of it.
I of course asked the whereabouts of original shell....Much shuffling of feet, hemming and hawing....eventually admitted it was rolled up in a ball out Rangiora way....which explained the absence of some genuine trim bits.

...careened around the local roads in one of them when I was 16...it wasn't mine...it belonged to my 17 year old neighbour/mate...his mum worked in the tight fisted and regulated car biz...but he got one of these as his second car...I got his first one, a 62 Mk 2, facelift, Zephyr...I kinda feel old, and still silly...

It's a Mk II. Who cares?
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

I have to admit i never had seen a MK2 Lotus.
they would have been made at the same time as the Escort twin cam which is rather odd.
from memory the first model Lotus MK1 cortina had a alloy IRS rear suspension and alloy pannels later followed by a live axle?

I'd be tempted if it was a Lotus Escort, re shell or not.

    Sounds about right.
My mate bought a genuine original GTR XU1 Tworana about 15 years ago for $8k. Worth close to 10 times that now.

Wow, I didn't know they did a mk2. The 1 at least looked cool. But still a fucking shitbox with mythological status for fuck all reason except in comparison to the cooking model.

A mate had a Toyrana which had a Viva 1100 dropped in it. Probably wasn't any worse than an xu1. A mate had a GLX Krapi 3l v6. Crashed it as it didn't go around corners. Went through several people and now totally by chance my best mate has it. Actually she has 2. Collects albatrosses. Parked next to her rx7 and several other corpses.

Cars are seriously boring until you spend bulk dollars and they are still a snooze fest on nz roads where bikes are still fun.

Now that Holden no longer exists as a company, these will skyrocket in value!
