two stroke tank maybe of that era had a light on them, remember this is the company whose YDS2 premix pump was driven off the gearbox, and the clutch at the end of the crank, pull up in gear at an intersection, blip the throttle for the chicks and ya oil pump is stopped, seizure is fairly quick to follow

I have a YDS3. i am familiar with the idiosyncratic layout, i assume it was inherited from the Adler design they borrowed.
I think the bigest issue wa the clutch went from 10000 to 7000 rpm during gearshifts or even worse on the racing variant they used to snap of the end of the crank.
That's a Lot of momentum or is it Ke?

Dave can chip in but i think the oil pump on the Stinger/wolf only works when in gear . the tacho drives off this and it stops when you pull the clutch in the T250 /T500 was probably the same?
...I found a rusted oil tank off a two toke the other day shaped like a large hip flask with a rear wheel shaped groove cut out in the back it was steel no idea what its from. Stinger Dave?

Your memory is correct, it was the barrel, I picked a MVX250 up down here for White Trash and remember thinking how shit that was

You could park it next to your XZ400 and 550.

    Or your Hesketh

Yeah but nah. I am kicking myself - there was a GPz550 unitrack came up on tardme a few months ago - it looked very good but not over-restored so you were not keen to ride it. I dithered and then didnt buy it. Guy wanted $6500 asking from memory. It was in Palmy North or somewhere. Anyway I may have spent a couple of hours trawling expired listings seeing if I could find a phone number for the guy.

You shoud be flagellating yourself for buying husqvarna vellipin 701 instead of a far pretttier 701 supermono .You should be able to look at the mantleplace if you want to.
I always loved the looks of the early 80's GPZ's they got that boxy look just right.

Well I thought I'd play "what can you buy that's better than a gpz550 for 6.5k?"

First listing with my price range search. Also in palmy, also a kawi middle weight.

And save a grand into the bargain.
Hmm turned into a short game.

Actually I have seen bits of one more recently , at your place near 3 years back. Forgot that.

My initial memory was Murray Scott MB50 stalwart had some bits he was going to graft on. He worked at the local breaker mid 80s so there was a supply of them fairly shortly.

Good memory Dave! it was something to do with oil not getting back to the gearbox level from the clutch casing - waiting for a phonecall atm

The gear ratio are the same as a VT. (And CBR250rr) I always assumed the box was the same is it?

the problem is to do with the positioning and size of the oil holes between the gear and clutch casings making the running level low in the gear case so 6th gear and one or two others don't get much oil. I took the one that was in for crank work here for a blast around Tapawera a few months back - quite a rocket and real good handling too. we changed the ultra heavy center rod/piston for a normal one and fiddled the balance factors a bit and used CR 80? pistons
