and my favourite GPz is the swoopy one. One of my favourite bikes ever was an 83 GPz750. Did a lot of miles on it fanging round Wellington in the mid to late 80's (left in early 1988)

Um. . . Where's the rest of it.

Needs a full rewire, if I get time. . . Well clearly you've lost interest.

And how will it run with no airbox and a filter hanging off the side? Do you have to rechip those? and who has tge sw to interface with those old FI units?

Needs of course an LVV for framework and brakes (sans ABS as std might be a real issue.

    How much??!!?
LOL takes me back to when I owned one. Great bike at the time but that time has passed.

I rode a mates 100RS and it was quite useful well my CBX550 was the comparison or his GS1000 that I borrowed when the cbx did its crank.
Then a mates 16V bmw K. It was awful. Very germanic. Maybe my comparison had improved 🤔

I had a 1981 GPz 550 H2 when I was in the navy in 1982. Reg was 74LBR, no idea why I remember that. Someone needed it more than me, it got pinched.

I still cruise through TM from time to time, to see if I can relive my youth. None seem to exist any more, or at least, none get sold.

I'm only nostalgic for stuff I didnt have back in the day. So GPz550, GPz900. but not GPz750 (unless turbo.......) - I knew a guy who had one but he didnt let ANYBODY ride it.

This issue of Cycle world, but like a 80s pin up model now vs, then, maybe nostalgia and what you thought the ride would be back then is likely better than the reality of riding the real thing now

You are correct though it is more swoopy than i recall.
kind of pistol grip tank merging with side covers with a bit of Star Wars Imperial stormtrooper/ Katana in the headlight.
still pretty now likely a handful in the twisties carrying 60kg more weight now than it should.

surprisingly so. lighter and more power (relatively). Mission statement/use case is "shingle roads to cafes <50km from my house" i.e. on Banks Peninsula. Tiny single lane shingle roads with hamlets where you can enjoy hog butchering, banjo music and interfamilial relations....

yes. and yes. I still love CB740's but every time I ride or work on one I realise how far we've come. Even that 1993 Ducati Monster I had was waaaaaay better.

A mate had a GPz305. It was worlds better than his XS250.
Until it wasn't. And again. And again it ate it's own cams.

He bought an RZ350K which was much better but pretty wayward (ropey example). He then bought a new RD350FU (faired RZ350 ypvs). That was much much better.
So i bought it. Several fun years of tuning and wheelies. And an FZ400 rear wheel that was same pattern and was wider and slotted right in with only a reasonable amount of machining.

    Where was i?

Well I read on a conspiracy website that bumfucking is a prerequisite for Katana ownership....

That's every town with 200knm from where i live.....
Still feel you should have gone supermono. Did you try one?

Monsters are cool, i just wish they styled a version in 851 style, but if they did that it would have stolen sales from the 900ss i guess..
I always loved how Ducati used so many of the same parts to create very different bikes.pretty sure it was part of the brief Galluzzi had.

I forgot about the 305 they had a 250 the same year as the Vt250 came out 82/83 its was ever so slightly faster 173 on a downhill (Bathurst?) i think in a wheels road test.
