The VINNING process.

Jesus, this has got to be the easiest money VTNZ are making. To start my little bitch session I asked last week at VTNZ how much to vin a bike and they said $125. No problem.

Went in there this morning and they tell me it has to go to a bike shop and have the brakes certified first (approx cost $50) then it can come back and have an inspection done for $90 and then it can be registered and warrented for 6mths for $190. WTF?


So it is what it is and I have to grin and bare it (but don't have to like it)


I do wonder what a warrent is for if they have to have the brakes independantly checked over. Surely if the brakes are good enough to pass a warrent then that is good enough. If the warrent check is not adequete then it does make me a little nervous on all the other bikes that I have owned that may or may not have had good enough brakes being only checked by warrent standards the times I have owned them.

I hate systems that are just setup to draw more money out of you.

A WoF check is just a performance and visual check - for a VIN they will be dismantled.If they do a performance test it will be much more comprehensive than a WoF brake test,but these are usualy only done for mod certs.

All motorcycle brakes are now required to have an entry point or revinning inspection to make sure they are up to factory specifications or better.
Unfortunately you have been tarred with the same rod as some dodgy buggers who were putting through bikes with questionable brakes

I know it is for the benefit of safety and all that and I wouldn't even be grumbling about it if they had told me about the full process when I was in there last week. They had lead me to believe I can just have them look over the bike and walk away an hour later with shinny new plates and all is good but in fact it is much more involved than that. The thing that really bugs me is that I only have a car for 4 hours a week (as both my wife and myself work shiftwork and the times clash and she always has the car) and no trailer and so there is alot to workout so I can get the damn bike around these places to have it checked out. I'm not allowed to ride it on the road until it completes the process so it could take another 2 weeks before I actually get it roadworthy.

On another note, I like to know brakes are good. Every bike I have ever purchased, while others have been asking how fast does it go, I have been asking how fast does it stop. It is an important under rated feature of any vechile.

Sorry, you wouldn't know the back story to it. Had lots of trouble getting my bike Vinned when I had it imported. I know what you're going through and then some.

I feel for you. I really do. I am only 31 and yesterday I had a full head of hair and all was good with the world. After a morning in VTNZ I now look 63 and have to spend the rest of the afternoon taking the pieces of brick out of my forehead.

There were other things too. Like the guy I brought it off had gone to the police and got them to write a notice saying that the bike is of no interest to the police. I showed VTNZ this and they said it wasn't good enough because it didn't haev MY name on it. So I had to go all the way over the other side of town to get the police to write my name on the top of this form. I have no idea why the police would suddenly be interested in the bike just because it is sitting in my garage rather than someone elses.

And every single question you ask there gets a half arsed answer. After you do all they ask then they say, oh and now you just have to do the next step. Well why didn't you just tell me the full process when I asked for it??

I am damn sure they are just trying to be difficult.

Yea it does seem that way. Alost as if they get a kick out of making us chase the end of a string. (ever done that to a cat? Now you know what it feels like lol) Fair few brickwalls fell victom to my head and fist and even put a dent in the side of the corogated steel on the side of the VTNZ building. Just gotta grit your teeth and bare it cause they arn't gonna change it just for you.

How much did it end up costing you Waylander, and how long was the process?

6 months and probably about $400 or so. I had other circumstances though that VTNZ had nothing to do with, those were the main reason it took so long. Stupid bloody moving company. Anyway, good luck with it Cowboyz just keep at it and all will come right.

the bike is pretty much standard and I have no concerns that it will fail any of their tests. Just got to work out the time frame of getting the bike around town without riding it. I am very very impatient at the best of times. I hate waiting for anything and now, well. I have to keep reminding myself that it will all be worth it being as I only paid a grand for the bike in the first place.

Shite man go ahead and ride it. Rode around for the 6 it took me. Never got pulled till I had the plate and was riding home to mount it. If you do get pulled then just tell them exacty what you are doing, just riding it to this place to get this done so you can get it registerd. You should be sweet.

Tell ya what, take the plate off the ninja and slap it on the GSX. That way you it deters the spot checkers that just check to see if there is a plate. Get's you left alone by the tax patrol.
