    Coolest dad ever!

I saw 2 big BMW adventure bikes kitted out for what proper adventure riding. One of them had a side car with 2 seats, had 2 kids with dirt helmets on, in the side car.

So jealous, how cool is that, they even had a roll bar behind each kids head, wish I was quick with my phone and got a picture.

This was in Te Awamutu. Does anyone have pics of this set up or know who they are/ what they are doing?

I have heard that the head guy from Touratech is over here at the moment and has a sidecar outfit that he's rocking around NZ in for a month or two. He apparently has his wife and kid with him, so this could well be him? I can't be sure though...

Sounds rad, wish I'd got to do that as a kid!

Hi guys, yes that was Herbert and Ramona Schwarz with the two kids touring around NZ for the last 3 months. They have just gone back to Germany today...the bikes looked amazing and fully kitted out. They ride hard and covered over 10,000k's from top to bottom. :-)

Touratech USA has some pics (http://twicsy.com/i/WdbRDe) and as said, it's Herbert and Ramona Schwarz, founders of Touratech. 2013 R1200GS with a custom sidecar.

Something like this (edit, old bike, but then I bet you don't care):

that is cool, never got to take my kids on my bike even after spending a small fortune on proper fitting gear for them which sits in the cupboard unused, the joys of splitting up and someone taking a vindicative attitude

Yes, they had a great time...however they did experience a lot of rain over the summer, but that is just New Zealand for you!

I them asked them "what was the best part of the trip?" and they replied "all of it". Ramona is a well known photographer and she travels the world on bike taking photos for the liokes of BMW when they release new models. This wasn't her first time here as she has traveled the world before on her own on a bike. It was Herbert and Kids first time though.

If I knew how to post photos on here I could share some with you.

My lifelong affair with bikes was sparked up as a six year old going for a ride in a neighbour's chair.

That's a shame about the weather, but then, what better bikes to be on than the GS to ride in all conditions!

If they have any pics posted on a site or anything I'd love to have a wee look, if you can find the link. Glad to hear they enjoyed it though, sounds like they both have the riding skills to really enjoy the NZ roads, too

Ha ha...yeah that would be a great read. It was amazing to see the discipline Herbert and Ramona put on the kids for their home school learning. Too many people use kids as an excuse to not do something adventurous! - Maybe this thread should be "Best Parents Ever"

The side car they had made for the new R1200GS (2013) and was fully loaded. The kids helmets all have comms built in so they can all talk to each other on the move (Although with the advantage to switch off when you want to!! :-) )

There's a guy in Hamilton with a very tidy GS equipped sidecar

I'm just working on putting one of my DR650.
