Riding the bike to work for the 1st time in many years

Sometimes it's the small things that we take for granted that can provide so much enjoyment. A pootle in to work, or the "slightly" longer route back home. Dunno why that happens some times. An ice-cream at the beach, or a cooling refreshment somewhere...

Cheers,yep as you say its the little things eh.All week as i rode home ive found myself thinking why did i ever give up doing this,guess id grown a bit bored with the old S but every time i took the long way home i reminded myself why ive kept it all these years ie that old motor really was/is an awesome donk.Anyway job done my week commuting has got me interested again.

I had planned to be heading to Dunners with a stop in Oamaru but shit didn't work out

I don't know it it's 'lazy' not going to rallies and such.
There are only so many times before any leisure activity becomes a bit same ol'.

I reckon whatever you do on the bike is a journey, whatever you do in the car is a commute. My last job had me out of bed waking the birds up. Not my best time of day. On the few occasions I gave myself enough time to drink coffee and wrestle a bike out of the shed it was fantastic. On the TDM the journey home was an hour of twisties longer, on the DT, 45 mins of gravel. Getting to work I was buzzin. Ready to rock, in the van just heading for my next coffee.

I lived on a bike for decades. Must get that mojo back, or at least some of it.

I've been riding to work for the last 7 months, after 10 years in a car, and then 5 years on a pushbike....it's good getting back to being a daily rider, but geez, winter mornings were hard. I don't do traffic, and the roads are a bit flat and boring...it's all good.

A lucky escape,theres really no need for anyone on gods earth to go to Dunedin,often i think of those unfortunates that live in such a shithole.That aside Vicky and i indeed headed off on the old S though not that far...pig route was a blast as always though the Naseby pub became a trap as always.Vic indeed managed to get herself into those old leathers though could tell from the look on her face when on it wasnt as easy as back then

A great afternoon out though did take a hunk outta the carbon hugger when we tiki toured down a gravel road for a look-see.

I have been back on the bike regularly for the last year, after 5 years of very sporadic riding. Got a company vehicle so don't ride in every day but I do on Fridays most weeks. As George Formby said after my Friday commute I am bright eyed cheerful and raring to go (Actually raring to jump on the bike and hit some twisties to be brutally honest).

I now find it hard to believe I almost gave it away completely. I keep running into ex riders and am almost evangelical in my encouragement to them to get back out there! Maybe sometimes a break is what we need to remind us how much we love doing something?

Couldn't agree more. After 9 years of driving a work van all day every day, I had an enforced change of circumstance and ended up going to Wintec to retrain in a different field, had to commute on the bike. Holy shit it's fun!! Nothing can compare to how alive you feel on those cool almost frosty mornings. Plus setting off all the boy racers car alarms in the parking lot is funny EVERY time.....

No, not rediscovering, just going from a every 2nd fine sunday rider to a daily rider. I rode nearly every day until my mid 40's, now I'm 60 and back to being on the bike every day.
