This reminded me of a time when I had bought a car and ran out of petrol on the way home, my mate dropped me back at a garage which was in darkness but their office light was on and after a couple of knocks out comes the owner.........not only did he turn the pumps back on he loaned me a can.......... this was in a village about 120ks from home,I knew nobody........... he did not ask for any proof of ID just payment for the petrol.
