Sounds like something a blenheim idiot would say
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

No L plate will cost you $400 and 25 demerit points.

The amount of $$$ you are fined for a specific offence is pre-determined and not up to the cops discretion. This is for instant fines for minor offences, molre serious offences are resolved before the courts and the penalties are imposed by the courts.

whats the deal with the L plate crap,
i know of 2 cops who have said they wont pull up a bike with an L plate on it if it travelling 100 kph and is going with the general flow of traffic.
but said if they pull it up for reckless riding or whatever , they will do the person if they have an L plate aswell as the other offences.
are most cops likewise in this thinking or if you see a bike going a 100 , riding sensibly but displaying an L plate do you stop them for it?

As far as I'm concerned if I see any road user displaying an L plate then I treat them as someone who is aware of the rules and is abiding by them. Consequently I will seldom pull them overunless they are committing an offence that requires attention. If I catch the same person being an arse then they'll get the treatment they deserve regardless of whether they are an L plate rider or fully licenced.

Generally speaking - No. Plenty of learners do behave like idiots but they generally aren't the ones who actually display an L plate. Their learner licence status is often only disclosed after they come to your attention because of some foolish act or piece of shit car, by then its a case of, "Oh dear, you have a learners licence too, bad luck son".

I hear that some redneck, small town cops in the states give discounts for cash.
    Think it'll catch on here?

Not until they give us a cash register, reciept book etc to add to the other impedimentia we have dangling from our belts.....

BTW In small US towns the town council get the money from the tickets, hence the zealousness of the cops - who are also paid by the small towns.

You have Highway Patrol, State Trooper, County Sheriff, Traffic Police etc etc
so things are a bit more compicated over there.

Kinda sums up my act too!!

Worst thing they did was give Learner drivers a licence, seems to blow their brains out the window when it comes to driving, you never see a kid driving but as soon as he's got that bit of plastic? - whooboy, he's everywhere at all hours driving with a car load of mates.
Excuses? they all start with 'just' - just going home, just taking my mates home, just testing my clutch, just being the sober driver, just going to mates place.......

If only the road code said it was o.k. for them to drive as long as the reason starts with 'just'
