LTNZ wants something like 45% of tickets in the 11-15k bracket. I think alot of naughty cops rather than pulling people over doing 111kmh are just marking the speeds down instead.Originally Posted by muzz

What enrages me regarding this topic, is that over the last few years my wife or I have received 3 or so speeding camera tickets in the mail for 11kms over the limit along the main road here in Hobsonville! O yeah, I also got one on the bike a few weeks back for going 95 in an 80km zone just off SH16, $80 fine. I requested a photo for that one and sure enough the pic arrived 6 days later displaying the rear of my 'Bird, with a rider in black on it.Originally Posted by zeRax

Getting those speeding camera infringement letters in the mail is an 'orrible experience.

C'mon Lou, we all know you worked for the "force" in the past...just how long did you slug it out on a bad salary package?Originally Posted by Lou Girardin

Aye, speed cameras are such a dawning, era, spooky - thing to think about, you dont have a detector zed? do x50's pick up everything u need to be scared of ? ( bar the non lazy highway patrol that flick lazer on when they see someone fast rather than leave it on )

The 11km ones were in the cage. The detector "usually" resides on the bike!Originally Posted by zeRax

In a word, bullshit. There is more than enough anecdotal evidence of people being done for 11, 12, 13 k's over.Originally Posted by Indoo

It was a different force Zed, a better, more enlightened one. And the pay was fine. (geddit?)Originally Posted by Zed

Why dismiss it as bullshit? Sure speed cameras roboticly dish out tickets for whatever speeds they detect but cops often negotiate sppeding tickets. Heaps of people are given discounts when they are nabbed doing say 68 - 75 and only get written up for a paltry 61. I don't have any problem with it as the person caught speeding gets a wake up call without getting severely dealt to, the cop gets a ticket to show his boss he is doing something and the LTNZ get a stat based on the speed category they want to target.Originally Posted by Lou Girardin
This would only happen with decent people who know they were doing wrong and accpet that some penalty has to be imposed. Recidivist dickheads who never learn never get discounts because the more that gets thrown at them the sooner we can get them off the roads.
You will no doubt jump up and down and say that this practice amounts to dishonesty. Perhaps it does but more importantly it reflects the individual cops ability to use discretion in a practical and fair manner.
Are you saying you accepted bribes?Originally Posted by Lou Girardin

No more than you would Spud.Originally Posted by spudchucka
BTW If you "negotiated" a ticket downwards, what evidence would you give in court as to the speed checked, if it was defended.

If there was any indication that the person did not accept and acknowledge the offence then a discount would never be considered in the first place. I haven't had anybody change their mind and defend one yet. And to answer your question I would tell the court exactly what happened and explain my reasoning behind my decision to write the tickcet for a lower speed.Originally Posted by Lou Girardin
You've been lucky, I've had customers with 'buyers non-remorse' that ended up in court. It's a lot easier to book 'em for what they were doing or not write the ticket in the first place.Originally Posted by spudchucka
