Since you're starting from scratch, you really are best to start with a professional. There are a lot of concepts that will be easier to absorb when delivered in the correct order and method.

When I bought my first bike the dealer offered a lesson in a side street near the shop which was a selling point for me and the same went when I bought my first pair of skis the shop owner offered me a skiing lesson. Not something you see offered today maybe due to OSH and liability issues.

Now that's awesome service.
