    Ah, the memories.....

Anyone remember the one in the Castrol Six Hour blowing in a big way? I can't remember who was riding it (come in Merv!!)

Anyone remember Mike Gane from Tauranga who used to race a silver one, mainly at Bay Park (the old BP, not the new one!) He was last heard of, many many years ago, working at Norjos in Christchurch.

Don't forget Vince Sharp on a CBX/6 ... apparently some of the CBX problems were from fitting CB oil filters, the CBX item was designed for more flow and pressure it was said.............. The 78 Castrol Six Hour should have been a CBX shoe in but it all went a bit pear shaped.....Knight/Keyes bike finished 20th after having the cam cover gasket suck in 15 minutes in to the race..the Glen Flack/Mick O'Brien bike was dropped and puntured the engine cases..the Graeme Crosby/Hatton bike was was said to have been having overheating partial seizures so was out in 20 laps,Crosby had qualified at 58.1 seconds,a full 1 second quicker than the 77 pole ......Mick Cole/Dennis Neill were the sole surviver coming home in 3rd after a 4 minute 10 second tyre change when running 6th pushed them back ......... Yamaha first home with the Warrian/Kelly Ducati SS900 second..............It was also the race Mike Hailwood rode in on another SS900 with Jim Scaysbrook.

As I remember it was Mike Gane's bike that blew in a big way on the back straight - can't remember who his partner was that day. Alan Collison was on another CBX too and I don't think he did so well either. They had the speed but didn't go the distance.

TLDV8 is talking about the Aussie 6 hr when he talked of Crosby racing one in 78 and suffering it nipping up.

In the '78 NZ 6 hr Croz was on the Z1R partnered by Tony Hatton. Hatton dropped the bike during his stint, Croz then rode like a demon taking seconds off everyone, but then then the Kawasaki boys couldn't laugh anymore about the Honda blowing because Croz blew the Z1R as well and lost his title as he had won the previous 3 years in a row, initially doing it solo.

So 78 was the start of the dominance of Dave Hiscock and Neil Chivas on the Suzukis, the first guys to win it not on a Kawasaki as only Ginger Molloy had won before Croz and he was on a Z1 in 1974. Croz won 75, 76,77.
    Cheers

    Merv

Diesel Pig Races one in Pre 82 racing down here and has won the local championship on it, engine is stock but it's had some attention paid to the handling

Vince Sharpe raced one in the six hour, he stacked it big time going into the sweeper and ended up in hospital.

    Damn Suzuki's
Bad memories for a Honda man...but.. Mal Campbell on an 1100R catching Nev Hiscock lap by lap as the suzuki's brakes faded was a pleasure to watch. Especially when he overtook him with only a few minutes to go!...Ahh the memories!

    Question CBX club

    Hey,

Did you ever get much interest in setting up some sort of club for these beasts?? It would be great to get a few of these monsters together at some stage. I have a few of them in my garage. It would be great to find other owners and get somethiung going..

I saw a CBX - 6 at battle of the streets, cornering speed defied physics! And the sound.... Anyone know who owns it?

    Arrow Mint looking bike.

Quite fond of that model. Like Sensei said be keen to see the bike if you ended up these ways. My favourite classic is the CB350f of the 70s, have a minter somewhere in the garage amongst a few other bikes.
Those who insist on perfect safety, don't have the balls to live in the real world.

I know of a guy (lives on a friends farm) that has a 6 cylinder CBX that damn near lives in the open. Surely these must be an appreciating classic, and a sniff of a shed isn't a worthy home?
