Side note: Seized my lawn mower quite well and truley a year ago, put oil in it tiped it upside down for a couple days ; then wacked the blade a few times and it freed up nicly. Ran like absolute shit for about an hour full revs, then it came right; runs stronger than ever.
Maybe not applicable to you but, 'cool story bro' aye.

Anyone got any ideas on removing the timing chain, if I can't see the master link, and can't turn the engine over to rotate chain?
Where there's a will, there's a way.
There's also an inheritance, which comes in handy.
Wont have a master linkrelease the tensioner & get the mechanism out of there if you can, and possibly you'll have enough slack to slip the sprocket enough to get both bolts undone. tie the chain up before you remove the cam & sprocket otherwise it'll disappear.
what oil is there looks like grinding paste
POWER man POWER. Petrol, Oil, Water, Electrics, Rubber (lady optional). Gotta make sure its all full and everything works.
Ok thanks re chain advice!
Yeah I know... I replaced oil & filter only a few weeks ago (flushed a full 1l through before change as well) so not sure why it's So bad. Bike feels like it runs very rich - could That do it?
Will have to check filter again if I salvage this engine
