yip,was an air cooled floater-id say it wouldn't be too far behind my 88 powerwise....gonna sell it and get an it465-i hear they have a better eng than 490 (had one of them too-a pig to start)

i had a yz465 in my go cart years back. You might like to know you could bore them out as required when you run out of Yamaha pistons we then used wisco pistons and then first 490 Yamaha piston more rebores then more wisco pistons till no more. An amazing engine. Vibration of the engine causes the choke seal to wear and engine runs rich, i sealed it off and perfect after that.

go karting was real hard on drive dogs in gearboxes. Mostly Suzuki TM, RM air cooled. ( we raced dirt tracks) the 465 seemed bullet proof, never a problem. Mine was a 1982 model, loved the torque it had down low. Ran 390 main jet and Castrol TTS @40-1
