Anyone who was brought up to know right from wrong will know that you do anything you can within reason (legal or not) to avoid impeding the progress of an emergency vehicle. Given the right circumstances, even the cops don't mind if you break other laws to get out of their way (in actual fact they saluted me for it).

Yeah but it's a long time since I lived in Wellytown so I'm busy watching the fuckwits in their cars when I do rarely use a motorway.

Still, I'm reminded of a little work story.

Our lawyer arrived at work one day and told me of a story that had been the talk of Head Office in Wellington when he was there the day before.

An out-of-town staff member had cause to visit the Upper Hutt office, pick up an Upper Hutt staff member and proceed to visit a member of the public.

Unable to find the Upper Hutt office she phoned and asked where the office was.
    The office asked'
    "Where are you now?"
    "Driving along the waterfront."
"Ummm Upper Hutt doesn't have a waterfront."
    "Where am I"
    "Sounds like Petone."

At this point I advised the lawyer that the driver in question was one of our local colleagues.

What the story didn't mention was that our driver asked the Upper Hutt staff member to drive to the visit in the light of her better knowledge of the area. Shortly thereafter the car hit a stone wall.
"Because the passenger didn't tell me the wall was there."

You share the road with that driver. Rather you than me.

    You have me there ...

But I think importance prioritys doesn't explain it all ... they just don't give a fuck about anybody else's problems.

They might think differently if they were lying in a ditch waiting for an Ambo ... or their house was burning down ... and still moan they didn't get there fast enough. Their priority's would be clear then ...

Nowhere did I say I put myself in danger far from it. In the cases where I ran the red there was no opposing traffic. Had there been the ambo would've had to wait.
