    450 EXC - bigger tank & luggage?

    G'day
Any inside running on a bigger tank and or luggage options for a 2006 450 EXC - just spent money on losing weight (going to sell the KLR) and now I am trying to spend some on putting it back on! DOH!
Any experience on lead times, prices and who to get the tank / luggage off really appreciated
    Thanks
    Crim

Hey Crim, welcome to the Orange side.
You've got a couple of options for larger tanks, OEM KTM one will be 13L, there is a Clark tanks (Australia) 15L or an Acerbis behemoth around 6.5 US gallon (25L)
Try Ebay USA as a start point to look at tank shape and prices. Expect around $75-$100 USD for shipping. I'd recommend looking a Just Tanks website in USA too, they also have a couple of options.
At the moment the Aussie based ones might be your better option due much better exchange rate. Have a look on TradeMe as well, you might get lucky like me and get one here.

As far as luggage goes, I love the Wolfman soft luggage, it packs down snugly and is ultra well constructed. A lot of guys use Giant Loop for distance travel, over seat style, but fairly bulky. Bear in mind, the biggest factor is having gear bounce off the bike in the rough stuff, so panniers etc need to be really secure. I got my Wolfman stuff from USA in about a week after ordering.

Have a quick look at this thread on 525 EXC (essentially same as your 450) for a few clues on what other EXC owners are doing. http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...proofing-a-525

Oh, and seriously look at a seat upgrade.

Hi C F interested to see your comments re luggage & your RR on ADVrider , am trying to find decent bags for my TTR , being the bike is quite short so anything impingeing on seat space is a pain . Any chance of me having a look at them some time . Txt 0272 486 511 Ta.

This is the tank I have on my 2011 530 EXC:

They have one for your bike also..

I have found that I always get about 17 liters when bone dry...fyi....although they advertise 15 fyi..

    It's expensive but, works!

Funny that I also have a KLR and are going to start using the 530 for the more Adventurous stuff~~~

    Good Luck

got the 6.6 g Acerbis on the way from good old US of A , luggage might try to just make something up out of old cycle saddlebags for now - giant loop coyote look the schnizz (if that is what teenagers are saying these days), seat - might head into a local upholsterer and see what they can do

Gidday Crim, Congrats on the new bike. Nice choice, thankfully I am not doing the DB this year cause I don't think I would be able to keep up with ya!! If you plan on a ride out this way let me know, cheers,

I've got the same on my 530 Haven't had to use it all yet but for a few extra litres you could try this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h7BOGlNO8E
Or for the super tanker option http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=686383570

    For an extra 3 litres...
I bet there a few that have tried this and....
    1. cannot get the seat to fit.
    2. when they take the tank off for work, cannot get it to fit right again?
Nice trick though, I would rather carry a bladder of some sort for that extra 3 litres...or 5...

Maybe some bright college boy will come up with a Idea like Keeping the seat on while he pumps it up ?

Now that I am a KTM owner - I seem to spend money, Panniers for the KLR about $20 all up and a bit of kiwi india nudity, I have splashed out and got the Giant Loop Coyote - great bit of kit and fits sweet as bro - but more than 20 times the price
Big tank hasn't arrived yet - but I will soon be ready to tackle the DB1k , got the neurosurgeon on Tuesday for my six monthly check on the old back op so will be annoyed if he stops me in my tracks

Took her out for a spin today - it makes the KLR seem like a touring bike on the road but very confidence inspiring on gravel / light off road stuff - and that is with road tyres/sprocket on - will wait till I talk to the doc before getting too gnarly - but really looking forward to it!
