    Nana's Dusty Bottom

    Hiya
    I am still recovering from a back op and think the whole thing may be a bit much (missus would go spare if I came back with a a crook back) so am going to do a couple of abridged (if that is another word for Pansy) days, also my large tank just arrived today so going to do it on my standard tank and 3.9l or 2 strapped to the back, worked out distances and "soft boy factor" and going to do the following;
    Day 1 - after the briefing going to van down to Waimate and start Sat morning there, depending on how the back stands up do the rest of the day (not Awakino)
    Day 2 - Alex straight to Omarama Saddle, Black forest, Fairlie and back to Waimate
    Couple of questions;
    1. anyone else a right nancy boy and want to do half days - just yell!
    2. I can take limited gear down in the van on the Friday - just yell!
    Cheers Crim

    fusion of a few of them, if you think the cluth locking flange on a KTM 450 EXC is expensive ($49 for a wee piece of metal - tks Superior) they chucked in 12k worth of screws and plates and it was bugger all, think the screws were 1.5k each - could have got em at Bunnings for 10c (cant remember which ones - some letters followed by some numbers - got a new crack just above my old crack so was down the bottom somewhere)
    Thought I would save the old taxpayer some money so opted to use medical insurance instead of ACC (who would have covered it) and then ACC wouldn't cover me for time off unless they paid for op so expensive mistake!

    I'm back

    A great couple of days, day 1 just did the Mckenzie, Haka and Danseys and then did a bit of "exploring" in the Ida - love that country down there!
    Day 2 straight to Omarama saddle and then through Black Forest with Pampa (thanks for opening all the gates after my bloody side stand broke!!)
    a great couple of days, did about the right amount I reckon, back feeling good (little stiff). I love the DB1k1!- awesome days.
    Only real PITA was motel in Alex I had just got cleaned up and was out the front little motel dog came up to say hi - I thought he was rubbing up against my leg but the little bastard cocked his leg and peed all over my only clean socks / jeans (just though I'd share that so you can have a good laugh)

    Yep good stuff Crim. Why the KTM tho? Seems a huge change from the KLR & with your back I thought you'd be going for a less hardcore bike? I spose weight difference is a big thing.

    weight difference was the reason - always seem to be strain things when I dropped the KLR and tried not to "loose it"

    and there is no doubt that the KTM feels a lot lighter - but you are right, bit more hardcore and you want to do more on it - great fun bike, but!

    Yes I understand, that is why I got the DRZ400 a while ago. I still had to give that type of riding away tho due to my back. On the beemer if I drop it it never gets to the awkward back busting position right on the ground.

    Hopefully noone mentions riding it off the road a few times

    Dragged your old DRZ/KLX out of a river on Saturday morning . Wasn't that light.
    I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

    Yeah, always seems wrong to start the day with wet feet
    Sometimes you wish it was easier, but if it was, everyone else would do it, then you remember you don't want to be like everybody else!

    Yup, first river crossing, ride down a bank and into the river, quite swift and deep. had to drag 2 bikes out. Lots turned back.
