Learning to ride with no resources to do so?

Hey everyone,

I'll keep this short;
I want to get my learner license, but I have no bike or anyone I know who can teach me to ride. I am a 17 year old college student (Taupo) and my parents live overseas so they cannot offer any assistance (not that they would, they are not entirely supportive of bikes). I have some very light experience with motorbikes but I picked them up very easily (background of mountain biking etc so leaning/counter steering seems natural).
I am three months off my full drivers licence, however will be selling my car to fund motorbike ventures.

How can I go about becoming proficient enough at riding to pass my Basic handling skills course with no resources at hand?

Any advice will be very, very greatly appreciated as I have a strong passion for motorbikes and have wanting to get one myself for years now.

sell your cage, buy a motorbike. Thats at least 60% of the job.
The other 40% is go and get some gear. Helmet and gloves at least.

Then ride your bike like youre not a fucking pussy. Nevermind that licence shit.
After one week you should start learning wheelies. That way, if you ever see a cop you can just roll past on the back wheel so they dont get your plate.

Don't listen to Akzle! Most of KB doesn't so you'd not be alone. However he's right about selling the cage and getting the bike and Gear, good gear that will do the job required if you do need it to.

With zero motorbike experience, if you aren't a moron, you can pass the basic handling test. Book in the course and certificate. You will spend about an hour with an instructor, on the bike supplied, doing what's required in the test. Then do the test at the end. Just book it in and get ready to start the journey.

It just so happens, that I can't make it out of Taupo regularly for lessons due to commitments through work and school. I've spent far too long trying to find something over Google.

So basically you want to learn how to ride a bike proficiently/safely/full stop, without any spare time, any bike and it kinda sounds like for free as well?

I'm not surprised Google can't find anything

Get a cheap hack bike and take it down to a local river/paddock.

Not for free, I'd be paying the normal lesson price, I just can't make it out of Taupo easily.

+1 to this. I know things have probably changed in the time since I sat the basic handling test, but it doesn't look that different when I go past the place where they run it in town. You should be able to pick up what you need to know to pass the test in that hour before it.

Really though - you need to concentrate on getting a bike. I'm sure any mentor would be much more likely to help you out if you have your own bike. Too bad if you can't have it now now now - let that desperation drive you to save more so you can get the bike you want.

Fair enough. Start savin! Might be some overly generous soul in a local club that could help (Ulysses?) but having a bike to learn on is mildly important.
