I'm thinking they arrive on the scene a little later ?

Would love to have a set to just stick on the wall

Swing arm would have looked trick but to be honest I wasn't good enough to notice the XR one was bad, and they wheelied good being nice and short (this being an XR riders number 1 priority in the day)

Got them from somewhere in ChCh. The springs are far too stiff for the little 250. They raise the back end an inch or so and the 21" front lowers the front an inch. Makes for twitchy handling but that's helped by some YSS PD valves in the front and having the top of the fork a few mm below the top of the clamp. Works Performance still make them. Inside it's a normal open bath shock with 170psi or so of air via the valve up top. Does handle well with them though.

Think I paid $600 or so for them.

I used to get the shocks gassed with nitrogen instead of air, or they turned to rock when they got hot.
I made my sets by re-building the supposedly non-rebuildable originals,, new shafts 30mm longer, new seals and oil,, worked real good!
Any more than 30mm longer and the chain-slider over the swing-arm gets wrecked too often.

Nice shock stories, another XR pic in original colours with S&W's would have been taken in about 1980 and the bike would have done about 5000ks at the time

I know the Pic with the White plastics is in full race trim including Terry Kit, think the all red is also as pretty sure never ran shocks before doing the forks

The suspension quality was sooo much better for offroad and I liked the extra height even on the road
