My 20hp is more than enough for me. As the km roll by starting to feel more confident of it's handling limits (already know the hp limit) but know I'm still not pushing the envelope hard and thus she's not boring. Seeing the pump price, I'm not going to replace her. Cheap as Fish n Chips for tea to run.

But, if I were to carry a passenger or do long distance frequently, then I'll want more ponies throbbing away, but the engine will most likely be a V-twin in range of 250-650cc.

A rider picks their own ride for their own personal reasons and I respect them for that even if I can't see the logic behind their purchase or why they ride the way they do.
90% of the time spent writing this post was spent thinking of something witty to say. It may have been wasted.

    Yes.
It's more relaxing to ride a bike with decent power and/or displacement on the highway. So even though I bought my semi-litre mordern sprotsbike and my previous semi-litre semi-mordern sprotsbike (it was only 0.996 litres, and 'old' 1997 technomology) because of the well-documented penis/virility-enhancing abilities, I enjoyed the ease with which both/all of them gobbled kilometres. And in the case of the VifFerraRi, miles.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

    My 2 cents worth

For me, I enjoy having a huge amount of acceleration. I was never one who enjoyed high speed much (200Khr plus), my thrill is in the 0-100 sprint (probably brought on from riding 250-500cc 2 stroke motorcross bikes since I was 12). There is nothing better than smoking a boy racer at the lights and more you smoke him the better (without breaking the speed limit of course). I have found that 600's are not as quick in this initial acceleration phase as the 1000's (unfortunalty the CBR is the only 600 I can compare and it may be that the 636 can match the 1000?). Also, as a consequence of not as much acceleration, getting the font wheel up is more difficult for those of us who feel the urge to get it up there.

I have no issues with 1000 cc owners as I can definately see why you may want the extra horses (same reason people by a ferrari - who the hell needs car that can do 300Km +?).

no point in owning a super litre bike unless your out to prove something I reckon or perhaps putting it on the track as some of my mates do.
I would own a litre bike if I was touring long distances or if I owned a twin.
The 636 can keep up just nicely should I choose to try, on the straights as buggy said forget it.
Mind you I tickled up a few litre bikes at taupo on my 400, some of the riders were good riders to, eh Darryl

    Umm

    Itsa good question.

I pondered it as i stood gazing at the k5 outside the local zook shop. It's (un)arguably the meanest street going beast in captivity.

And if i owned it i'd like to not just break the speed limit, the the crust on a creme-brulet(sp), i'd like to smash it into fricken peices, i'd like to ram it from behind like sally the sheep.

As for the penis extension idea, i dunno. After getting (off) on one of those things my old fulla would be inside out and hiding in abject fear somewhere in my throat region. So it'd be no use beside doing a fair impression of a 2nd adams apple.

And i'd OWN the road more than i do now. Boyracers? Beneath contempt. 4wd's? I'd be spitting large chunks of road surface at them as i rode passed with my eyeballs trying to escape through the back of my head. I'd give motorcycling the bad name it so richly deserves. Anybody got a loaner k5?

the couple of thous that I've ridden, I've actually found them less torquey than the 636 low down. But then of course, once the revs pick up, the thou has it.

Another thing, it's great having a big bike, but can ya use it? You can be an utter nutcase and ride the tits off anything and be on a 400. Where as you can be ok, know a little and be on a thou.. who's gonna be the faster rider?

Next bike that I get will be a 1000 or bigger.. why, cus I can.. easier to ride, not doing the dance of the left foot as often.. effortless torque.. these are good things. Yes, I could stick with the 800, but... time to put the VFR in to pasture, give her a run on the weekends or something. Even a half arsed monkey on a scooter could beat me on the twisty bits, but that's not why I ride..

Only reason I buy bikes is because they are cheap or broken - if a stuffed 1000 comes my way for a give away price I'll be in.

I have a really little willy so I need a 1.2 litre bike. But it's full to the brim with torques, which suits me as I have a lazy left foot.
But I can't be doin' with sprotbikes for more than 30 mins at a time. I don't want to be a super scheme for a chiropractor.

Litre sports bike + Wet twisties roads = No fun!!

I'd love a 1000 sports bike, but the above thought always comes into mind. Now I know someone will say its all about control of the wrist. But lack of concentration and its all over.

basically when i ment modern litre bikes...I'm talking about the new generation of 140+hp bikes...not really TL's and tourer's [although some make dam good HP] or older mile munchers...

    I'm talking about k3-k5 gixxer's zx10's r1's etc

WT, Loosebruce and the likes will have one answer for you. When you can bring the front wheel up just under power and no clutch while you are doing 160kmph in 3rd.. You know why you've got a thousand.

I am not relating anyone into this sinario but when you have a 600 and if you are the sort of person who runs from the law, you can get away but there is always that little bit of a chance of being caught... On a thousand, you know you OWN the road. You can just blast out of there in a hurry and not worry about a thing.

A thousand looks meaner as well if you like to show off..

When 2 up, a thousand will still be fuken quick where as a 600 will show signs of being slower with the extra weight..

You don't have to constantly ring the neck of the bike like you would with a 600 to go fuken fast.. With a thousand you can still go easy with it while going fast...

I could sit here and have pleanty more reasons to go with a thou.. If I had the money to be able to buy and run a thou, I'd probably out there in Colemans signing myself for a new GIXXER thou right now!

If someone wants a thou, purely for looks or for it's insane performance, then good for them for being able to afford one. They worked hard for their money and it's up to them on what they wish to spend it on. I'm not going to judge them for that.

P.S. I know pleanty of people who can absolutly thrash the hell out of R1s, Gixxer1Ks, CBR1Ks etc on road or race track...

your right though...its easyer to ride faster in the wet with less hp...you see this in racing...when less powerful bikes make it far further up the placings!

i have a thou and fricken love it, it has nothinhg to do with ego or alike it was actually cause of price, if the price of the 750 was the same or cheaper i would have one now, but saying that i am glad i got the thou after having a 750 the thou with all the extra power is great, everything is so much easier who cares if i never use all the power it is there if i need it it can get me in trouble but it can also can get me out.

you must have ridden an old dud, cause the power of mine compared to the 05 636, the power difference is huge.

The same argument gould be applied to anything over a 250, I wen't for a ride on sunday with a 636, a 750 and a Thou. The Thou left us for dead but I feel that was more rider skill than anything, he would've done the same on a 250. the rest of us had quite a ride, the only place the other two were faster than me was on the decent length straights
