These bikes usually have 160-170kmph first gears...so if your going through most of the twisties in NZ are you going to be in 1st ?
After all that rush of aceleration we all enjoy is in the last 3000-3500rpm of the rev range...is it not?

are you going to be riding around on a bike that in real terms is going to be only as fast as your mates 600 through the twisties? I'm right arn't I ?

we don't ride on race tracks all that often do we?

So has all you 1k boys out there got any reason for owning a modern litre bike other than to make yourselves think your faster through the twisties because you have 150-170hp between your legs?

And come on people lets have a good debate/argument here...none of this sitting on the fence crap...I want to know what people think?
Its to make up for inadequaces elsewhere, whether being a lack of genetailia (sp) or lack of riding ability. I'll go and hide now
Those who insist on perfect safety, don't have the balls to live in the real world.

Will you be selling your ZXR anytime soon?

Thumbs up Voxan only make a 1000

Now I own an ancestor of John's TransAlp, the NTV650 is a great bike. Probably a bit perkier than the Alp yet definitely dull compared to the Voxan. But I like both, for different reasons. However both are expertly engineered and it'd take a real nit-picking twit to knock the Voxan on that count. Its 110kW and equal Nm of torque is way less than most mordern sprotbikes but wow! what a package: engineering, looks, versatility, handling, power....I reckon they'll outlive most current 1000s in the long run, even if only for that wee bit of conservatism necessary to produce a good all-rounder.
Personal choice or horses for courses Cowpoos, anything else could be shite.

Sure thing, in this world vanity, vanity, all is vanity!

The modern litre bikes are the fastest and most powerful production motorcycles ever - who wouldn't want one? There is something in all of us that desires the best of the best!

All this nonsense about "needing" one, etc, etc is irrelevant.

What I think is that a lot of people spout on about a subject they know little about - don't knock it till you try it! And I'm not talking about 'test riding' either, I'm talking about owning and spending many hours riding one. Like WT says, he'd find it hard to go back to a 600 now that he's found his groove in the 1000, and as LB said it is a step up! Listen to them, they know.

Bruce let me take his K3 1000 for a blast a month or so ago and I really enjoyed it. It didn't blow me out of the water like they seem to with some people, maybe cos I've been riding a fairly fast bike for 6 months now and am confident with a similar power delivery, but what excited me most was the *weight* factor in comparison to my Blackbird!! Yep I can tell you that front comes up mighty easily...

I'll buy a modern thousand in the near future and I'll love it - guaranteed! For me it's about my enjoyment, not how others feel about it.

how can you ask? late model thousand.... the very definition of motorcycling... huge wheelies, long stoppies, fast, handles real well. and can easily handle the weekend that the missis wants to go for a trip and packing light means 50kg.
There is no dark side of the moon, really, as a matter of fact. Its all dark...

Damn right. It's a laugh at school how many people say "why didn't you get a car?". I say "Cars don't wheelie", to which they reply "Well motorbikes can't have a sub in it" (followed by smug look). What was even more of a laugh was when I was getting ready to go after school, some 7th former shouted out from his car "MOTORBIKES ARE GAY" Still ride to school on the bike, bugger what they think.

Also, why does everything suddenly have a sexual gender thats inclined to go for the same sex, despite not having a sex at all nowadays? People are morons

I'd buy a 1 litre vtwin, but I don't think I would ever buy a litre gixxer, cbr etc. I don't need nor want that much power, it's just nuts.

Reason for that bruce...as you will be aware of...TLS rear spring on tls is 650 pounds....needs to be 750-850....the bike squats like a pig with a terrier hanging of its nuts...also it has a THING called a rotary damper...it does about as much damping as you ride slow....not often!!! lol

If you have a TLS fix the suspension...ohlins,penske,biturbo what ever...and revalve and spring the front...aswell...you will then realise how good they can be!!!!

and besides that...I'm not acctually bashing litre bikes...I'm just developing a good debate in which I'm curious of peoples opinions...as its hard to debate in ones own heads the pro's and con's....and you also won't see everyones point of view....aye?? and some people look at things from un thought of angles.

but I do wonder at times though?

Hmmm....so your riding off the boil then??

    Owning a 1000cc sports bike.

The main reasons for owning a 1000 sports bike are.

    * Lots of grunt out of the corners.
    * Lots of Torque around and out of the corners.
    * You don't have to rev the balls out of the engine unless you want to leap up the road.
    * You have it all, you can cruise with your 600 mates or just leave them at the side of the road!
    * And if you have a really big P--ck then you have nothing to prove.
    * The new litre bikes are nearly the same size and weight as the 600 and handle really well around corners so why not have the best of both worlds and get the most powerful and fastest bike you can buy.
    * You just cannot beat winding open the throttle in the right conditions on a litre sports bike. The last 4 bikes i have owned have all been 1000cc or more and i find i ride safer and enjoy my riding way more than riding a smaller bike. Saying that though i have started racing a 400cc and even with the lack of power i still have that grin factor. Every one to there own thats what i say.
