My 2 cents worth
For me, I enjoy having a huge amount of acceleration. I was never one who enjoyed high speed much (200Khr plus), my thrill is in the 0-100 sprint (probably brought on from riding 250-500cc 2 stroke motorcross bikes since I was 12). There is nothing better than smoking a boy racer at the lights and more you smoke him the better (without breaking the speed limit of course). I have found that 600's are not as quick in this initial acceleration phase as the 1000's (unfortunalty the CBR is the only 600 I can compare and it may be that the 636 can match the 1000?). Also, as a consequence of not as much acceleration, getting the font wheel up is more difficult for those of us who feel the urge to get it up there.
I have no issues with 1000 cc owners as I can definately see why you may want the extra horses (same reason people by a ferrari - who the hell needs car that can do 300Km +?).
