    From Facebook:

Update on Rory Mead - we are in Johnson City, TN and Rory has severe fractures of C5 & C6 in his neck. Currently he has no feel from the waist down. He is undergoing a two hour surgery right now to stabilize and repair the vertebrae. Several large chunks of bone are pressing into the spinal column at the moment but it is uncertain the amount or level of damage that has been done to the spinal cord. The next update will come tomorrow following the next MRI test. This looks like it will be a long and challenging road for Rory with his recovery, but we are hopeful that tomorrow's evaluation will be more on the positive side than the negative. Thanks for your thoughts. Shane Watts.

3:30am and finally time to go to bed. Rory's surgery was successful in reconstructing the demolished vertebrae, and no further signs of additional spinal cord damage were seen. He is in good spirits and keen to heal up. Now starts the progress of moving forward to regaining feeling and motion in his lower half.....

From Shane Watts: Rory Mead spinal injury status update - So just got word from the surgeon himself...he was extremely positive about Rory and said great things about the MRI and that it's all about rehab and hard work and hope now. Surgeons are kind of the tough dogs and I truly believe he would give us bad news if he thought it was needed. Having said that, there are no guarantees ever but he seemed thrilled that there was no bleeding in the spinal cord and no other significant damage. This certainly doesn't mean Rory is in the clear, however it is very promising, yet there is a very long and arduous road of recovery in front of him. Hopefully that small amount of feeling he felt in his right foot this morning is a big indicator of the progress that is about to follow. Rory is very grateful for the magnificent amount of support that has been provided to him by everyone out there!!!

Saw the video as well, great step in the right direction.

My understanding is that Rory has the medical insurance covered but there is quite a sum to be paid for the Helicopter and on site medic's. Lots of mulla.

So please give a bit to the donation as he is one of us...a kiwi.

Hey everyone...again, thank you guys so much for all of the continuous support! Rory is doing good down here in TN, they are thinking the transfer to the rehabilitation center will happen on Tuesday. This is where the journey of hard work and dedication will begin on his road to recovery. He has made a decision on a rehab center after hours of research and thinking about his future...he will be transferred to a place called The Shepard Center and it is located in Atlanta, GA. The Shepard Center is a nationally ranked rehabilitation center that specializes specifically in spinal cord injuries just like Rory's. We feel that though it is far from home, this is a place Rory can be extremely successful and meet the specific needs to achieve his personal goals.
That said, all of the amazing support whether it be through cards, prayers, good spirits or donations has NOT GONE unnoticed. Everyday we are more and more shocked at how much the community and everyone else has really pulled through and helped out. Even people who do not know Rory! It puts a smile on our face's daily. Though it is hard at this time to reach out and thank everyone personally, we know every single one of you that has actively helped Rory through these tough times.
