Im still too scared to split
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

Yes for sure. You won't ever catch me in traffic.

    Quite likely.

If there's room, and I'm in the mood (99% of the time) and the conditions are right (92%) then I split. If the 5-0 are around, I filter past, then split (literally). Speed differential varies between 10k and 150k (one-off insanity), usually around the 20-50k range. Road speed? Irrelevant to me.

I rarely lane split because the GN has bars at about rear vision mirror level of cars. When I do it's in stationary traffic and I go no faster than 20 k's between them.

I quite regularly tap my elbows on mirrors and stuff, once caught the front brake lever on a mirror as well but only just.

On my "light" bike (xv500) i lane split up til 20-30kph but i don't at all on my "heavy" 750 watercooled 4 cylinder Honda Magna.
I do it carefully and only if there is good room, If not i merge and wait or try the other side.

Yep I lane split or filter what ever you want to call it. Once the traffiic is stationary or near to it is when I start to do this, but only because I can.
I dont "Like" doing it, what I mean is its not fun for me, its more of I can so I will. As its been said before otherwise I would take the cage.
The Terrace tunnel is the place that I hate spliting the most. its quite narrow and I really take my time thru there. But it can save me 10 min's in the mornings I go into Welly and if I dont the RF's fan has started by the time I get thru the tunnel after sitting in the queue

I'll lane split all the time, but only really filter at lights or when the cars have come to a complete stop, that way I'm sure they're not moving anywhere without me noticing.

On a similar note... during morning rushhour traffic I sit on the median strip from Mission Bay right onto the dual carrageway heading into the CBD, never been stopped for it, and cuts a good 20-30mins off my travel time easily.

Edit : I think that's the right way around? But you know what I mean.

I do exactly the same... didn't do it for a while as I was getting used to the dimensions of the bike, clutch, low speed maneuvering etc but if there's room, I'm there.

I also do the median strip too... I agree, it cuts so much time down. I leave my indicator on tho, and merge back in before getting to the various islands and crossings that get in the way

I know it seems strange - but i only lane split when there is speed involved. When i lived out west i seemed to chase a guy riding a harley on the western while doing it. We would be doing about 80+.
Also since my accident i realise that there are more morons in cars cutting through traffic at 0-20k's then there are at 100ks.
Imagine if you will - would you lane split in a carpark? Cos thats what 50k roads are like in gridlock, sure the cars looked stopped, but 1 out every 1000 is going to directly cut your path
