    1974 cb360

    I just brought a 1974 cb360 for $250.
It isnt running, because of a clutch issue, i took one of the spark plugs out and peered into the barrel and cycled the kick starter, no piston came up or down, and the points breaker cam didnt move either. but when you put it in gear and cycle the kickstart, it spins the wheel, but doesnt move the crank. so my only guess is the clutch is completely kaput.

Am I right in thinking that the kickstarter engaging would turn the gearshaft, and the wheel, but not engage the clutch gear that would then drive the crank gear?

Anyways, i'll find out when i crack it open. Its been sitting in the weather awhile so the chrome and tank paint arent too happy, but the fame looks good and so does the inside of the tank.

Itll definitely be getting all the seals and gaskets replaced, if the pistons and bore are a bit knackered, then maybe a hone or a rebore and new pistons.

    Quite excited to be honest!

Any opinions/memories/tips that could be shared on a cb360?

i know its not helpful, but back away slowly. I bought one of these in the 90s because I remembered one from varsity, and thought they looked cool. You perch way up on top of them, they handle like shit, and have next to no power, and the points are always a mess. Not my view of a "future classic" but I got $600 for mine when I flicked it after 3 months, and I was very grateful for the cash.

The tank has nice lines, and the paintjobs were good.

They were a piece of crap when they were new, they are simply an older piece of crap now...never going to be a classic

Would make a good café racer project though.

Had one with low z bars many moons ago and it used to go ok.

There are a couple of them racing at HD and they go pretty quick, you would not catch on on a Triumph 750, I can get past 1 on the BMW.
42 BHP I have been told.
Of course how much to get them to do that is anyones guess.

One of the first bikes I ever rode.
Basically, even for a bike mad 13 year old it was as boring as batshit.
Back in the day, Honda could make a very ordinary motorcycle like a CB350 (twin) and then "improve" it with a CB360.

The CB350 was boring too but it's a lot cooler than the 360

The 350 was pretty cool when it came out.
The 360 was a cool free zone.
It sucked the coolness from yer body.
If Steve McQueen rode a CB360 he would have ended up doing ads for incontinence pants after a career in daytime TV.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, 41 of those 42 horses go into making noise...

...you've never caught up with or probably never would, one of Ray Glanville's (sp) CB 350's that he made into some of the most exciting and fast machines,of their day , down here where little ponies are bred to beat big horses...

If pulling in the clutch lever wont disconnect drive to the back wheel ... that doesn't automatically mean the clutch is kaput. There is (supposed to be) plenty of levers and springs that work the clutch that could be kaput.
Putting it in gear to spin the back wheel means there then IS still a connection between the kickstart and the gearbox. Pulling in the clutch should disconnect the two.

No ... it should spin the crankshaft (thus the engine) first.

A seized piston might strip a few teeth off a drive cog ...
