4 people own motorcycles in New Zealand. The rest of you are just borrowing them I swear.
Hey anyone have a clue as to why the rest of the world thinks kiwis are bike thieves? It was a new one sprung on me while travelling. I am usually just called lazy.

I resemble that comment.
Turned up to One Tree Hill Borough Council on my SL 125.
Cop followed me for 10 minutes and then I got my licence which I think you had to wait 6 months to go and buy an over 250.
That was after teaching myself to ride it.
No cornflakes were harmed in the getting of it.![]()
DeMyer's Laws - an argument that consists primarily of rambling quotes isn't worth bothering with.
Not quite - but back then there was no such thing as Jap imports or cheap cars. I still had a cop follow me for 1/2 hour and even had to do a hill start which someone who passed their full license last week said they didn't have to do.
All I could afford (and my mates) were bikes

Life would be so much easier if you addressed questions with a simple answer.
When I got my first bike it was a lot dearer to buy a car, now I could get a pretty decent car for what my bike cost.
BUT: cars have twice as many wheels as is ideal, they are too wide and can't get passed traffic, they are too heavy and they lean the wrong way around corners.
Young people these days don't realise how much better bikes are and they can get a decent car for less money and have protection from the weather and a working heater.
I've had several people asking me if I wouldn't rather buy a car, the answer is no. If I would rather have a car then I would have a car, I have a bike because that is what I want to have. The difference between riding a bike and driving a car is simple - riding a bike is better!
Probably only 10% of those over 50s still ride though, once you have a bike licence you'll keep it as long as you keep your car licence, Dad hasn't riden for 30yrs and is unlikely to but still counts as having a licence... Pretty sure he was given his licence when a friendly trafic cop saw he already had a Vespa so yup, pretty much the cornflakes thing.
