    Ashley Forest - Public Roads

I'm looking to do a ride through Lees valley and can see numerous roads on the topo map through Ashley Forest.
I'm pretty sure most of them are private forestry roads but are they all?

    All info welcome.

    Cheers

Okuku pass road is the only public road through ashley forest, from whiterock road through lees valley and out the other end to ashley gorge. There are a couple of gates along the way but no locked ones.

Would pay to check the Okuku river flow here to check if it's fordable or not.

There is a very useful website for checking on what is a public road, it overlays the surveyed roads on a topomap or aerial pic:

The thing is, what is public to the public...

isn't to the so called landowner that the so called, I have the evidence, map, co-ordinates 'public' road passes through the property...
    Bastards!

As long as you ask perhaps, prevent the fisticuffs!
Always has been a bone of contention, anger, frustration etc...aye Clint!

Well there is a road that can take you in there but what is on the Topo Maps and Google won't make any sense.
A lot of area's have fences across roads and others have been bulldozed altogether.

theres a few tracks off the main road thru lees valley that we used to do (like to the airstrip) but the farmer up has put private property signs up

pig hunters have access to a lot of the ashely forest tracks thu the locked gates but ive never been in there on a bike

    Thanks for the reply all.

The walking access map looks great and a good addition to the routing toolkit.

Planning on doing a night ride with LED lights which is a good time for those with young kids.
(Getting quite popular in the UK). Out Friday night ride till after midnight, home by Sat arvo.

I'll post up some pictures after the ride.

Townshend Hut is a easy in & out side trip off the Lees Valley Rd and there's the Wharfedale track that can be accessed from the Hut at it's northern end
